Iditarod!
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 06:42 PM by Blue_In_AK
Well, it's that time again. I imagine I'll be making a gallery in SmugMug like I did last year, but in the interim, here are a couple of really beautiful sled dogs that I couldn't wait to post. It's so hard to get the puppies to stand still long enough for a photo op, but I'm pretty happy with these.

So cute and great portraits. I have been waiting for the Iditarod because of you.:) Can't wait to see this year's shots after last years.

Do you have business cards to hand out so they can find the pics this year?

2. No, I procrastinated too long
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 07:32 PM by Blue_In_AK
for the business cards. I really do need to get more serious about this stuff. I thought about it last week, and I was going to ask my son-in-law who manages a Kinko's to throw something together for me, but then I got busy on this new transcript and forgot all about it until it was too late. I could have entered photos in this year's Fur Rendezvous photo contest, too, but time just goes by too fast. I guess I'd better start thinking now about entering one in the State Fair. It's not until the last week of August, so that should give me enough time.

I should get some good Iditarod shots though this year -- there are 96 teams entered, up 15 from last year, so I'll have plenty of opportunity tomorrow when the "real" race starts up in Willow.

3. I know the feeling of
procrastinating. I have been doing that a lot lately. Then you add in your having that job/work things I can see how time gets away.

I am thinking about scheduling "work" time for the photography thing just to get myself to get back to taking some pictures. Things have been too hectic and I have been doing some serious neglecting on the hobby.

7. Great portraits Blue!
I really like the first one. It must be a submissive pup to have those ears pulled back like that or was someone petting it?

10. Thanks, Jan...
I can see by the stats on the website that people are looking at it. I just feel bad I don't have all the captions up yet. Maybe late tonight I can get back to them, but I have about 150 pages to type before Tuesday noon, so unfortunately my priorities have been set for me at this time instead of me setting my own.

I am really glad you like the photos, though. :)

11. They are looking at them all the way in Nepal.
I sent your link to a few people, they know to check back later for captions. So got this back in email and you might want to see it. I did not know they were in Nepal (I am so jealous of them).

Thanks C**** from Nepal !! We're enjoying a few months here with the grandkids while our daughter does her research here. Back early May.

GREAT photos, and I can report that my 3 year old granddaughter K****** was fascinated, and we went thru a huge chunk of the 270+ photos !! She loved the dog foot covers, and wanted to see so many of the photos.

Knowing this family your photos are off on a trip around the world already. I know she has one kid in Africa and another in South America.

12. Thank you so much, CC...
You know, I really don't care if I sell any photos or anything, I just like it that people take the time to look at them and appreciate the race, the mushers and these incredible dogs. The Iditarod really is such an iconographic thing up here, with which all Alaskans become involved, but I know it's greatly misunderstood and maligned by some in the Lower 48. So I see value in anything I can do to erase the perception that this is some kind of barbaric animal cruelty thing. These dogs love to run, and even at the end of 1,100 miles they're still jumping around, ready for more. Anyone who saw the way Lance Mackey's dogs were licking his face at the finish line would know that there's nothing but love here.

13. Anyone that looks at your pictures
of the dogs should be able to see how much they enjoy it. The dogs look like they are dancing for joy as they are pulling the sleds. You can see the joy on their eyes in your close ups too. You never know how many people may decide to visit the state once your photos make the rounds. I even warned people that your photos would cause an intense yearning to hop on a plane and head to Alaska.

14. Early morning, 4th Avenue
now that there's "downtown" nailed.

And you have some of the best dog shots in this gallery I've ever seen. Just beautiful, and a wonderful tribute to the creatures who do all the hard work in these races.
