Anybody want some red birds?
We've got some extras.

We've got one of these too.

3. Great shots!
I've often wondered, what's the evolutionary advantage to being the brightest freakin' thing in the forest?? :D

9. Thanks.
Whatever the reason for this manifestation of natural selection, it seems to work for them.
It seems like they would be easy meat for any lazy predator.

We have a couple of cats that are excellent mousers, but they ignore the Cardinals.

4. So that's where they all went!
Haven't noticed any around lately.

Thanks for sharing these, bvar. They really do brighten up the place.

Nice catch on the owl. How did you know it was there? He/She blends in so well, I'd have walked right on by.

8. He moved.
He ruffled up his breast feathers and turned to look at me, otherwise, I would have missed him.
I tried to slowly work my way around to where I could get some of the light on his eyes, but spooked him before I could get the shot.

I understand that they are territorial, and stick to a regular routine.
I would like to set up a blind and try for some better shots this Spring.

We never see those up here, but I remember them from when I was a little girl in Ohio. Now I'm all nostalgic.

By the way, don't let all these hearts fool you. HullBoss gave me ALL of his when he donated.

7. Good grief! Did the Pope die?
That's a terrific photo (the 1st one) - the red stands out wonderfully.

10. Thanks.
This is a daily routine.
We have counted as many as 18 male cardinals at this feeding area.
The RED BIRD show is one of our daily joys.
They are occasionally joined by a couple of Jays that add some neon blue to the mix.
I really, REALLY waited all Winter for a shot against a snow covered background, but the weather just did not provide it this year.

12. That red guy
looks like he's got an attitude! Kind of a "What are you looking at?" stare.

Sometimes we have owls around here. I never have my camera handy when I see one.

14. Oh how gorgeous!
I miss the songbirds of the USA. In VA we had Bluebirds, Cardinals, Cedar Waxwings, etc.

Over here, it is a whole 'nother world.
