3. Thanks to all who advised me and kept me from

messing it up. Seemed to go OK to me, and nobody sent any hate mail.

I think the final two were excellent photos and worthy of submission to any contest with the same theme, not just this little backwater.

My sentimental favorite was the Seattle freeway staircase, since I've gone up and down those steps on several occasions and never noticed the photo potential. I thought the firefighter photo lost votes since the relationship to the theme was less obvious, although for me the fact he was stepping out of shadow into the light was an important, if subtle, factor in the impact it made. And so on -- good work by everyone.

(I've satisfied my competitive impulse by having a photo on photo.net rated in the top 30 of 1600 for a of couple days)
