My photographs from the Soulforce rally got picked up by The Advocate!
The photos I posted in this thread this week were picked up by the national GBLT magazine The Advocate for an article about Soulforce. This is a high profile, glossy magazine (described to me by their photo editor as the gay TIME).

This just shocks me. I can't believe my photos will be seen by a national audience. I just like to document the rallies I go to. Actually, this may make me rethink my prejudice against digital cameras. The ability to post rally photos immediately after an action balances the common good against enlargement quality.

But it really shows the power of DU. We really are the media now, aren't we?

Ironically, here's this month's cover:

2. I'll never forget about the little folk.
I'm pretty short, myself. :silly:

And given my head for figures, I'll never be rich, either. :(

13. Thanks, BIAK.
You knew me before when! LOL!

No doubt you're next, though your photos will get picked up for a coffee table book on the spendors of the American West. :)

14. Oh, you're too kind...
I really don't know the first thing about getting published or anything and all the technical details still leave my head swimming.

Your rainbow picture does prompt me to post this one, though, which is a sundog taken from my daughter's balcony in Santa Monica.

15. Sundog?
Is THAT what those mini-rainbows are called? I never saw one until I moved to Colorado, but I see them pretty frequently out here. Good to know they have a name otehr than "mini-rainbows." I must sound like such a geek sometimes!

16. That's what they are - sundogs...
They're like rainbows except that the light is refracted through ice crystals in the cirrhus clouds instead of water droplets. We get them a lot up here, especially in the winter. They usually signify some kind of weather change getting read to blow in and usually show up on both sides of the sun. Every now and then we'll get one that goes in a complete circle.

4. Congrats!!! It seems "we" are the reporters and documenters.
since the corporate rulers have decided that reporting dissent is bad for business. And this is the Advocate cover that convinced me that Clark was more than just another poser. I get "file not found" so grabbed this off a RW site that doesn't deserve any hits):

5. Hmmm... the site was down for me, too.
That's why I didn't link to it. The Gannon cover was the only link in my cache that came up. I wonder if they've been hacked. It was just fine when I checked it yesterday.

I like the Clark cover! That's an article I'd like to read! :)

6. I have double-click blocked, which is hit before the page load,

and thought they had somehow required a doubleclick cookie before loading, but come to think of it, I blocked that crap long before I first saw the cover. I've sent a message to the webmaster.

8. Not really.
They're sending me a few free issues.

Had a realized how prominent a magazine it was when they contacted me, I might have asked for payment. Just the look on my gay friends' faces when I told them the name of the magazine told me how well-known a publication it is, and that I could have gotten paid.

But then... I figure, I got that point and shoot digital for free (when I found it on the DC Metro going to protest the 2nd Bush inauguration), so it didn't cost me anything to take the photos. I was at the rally anyway. And there's also the fact that leftie info needs to get out and be seen. So I decided that a Creative Commons approach was the way to go.

And besides, I wouldn't have any idea what to charge.

9. It's good you got published cause now you can say you've been published
But it never hurts to ask for some kind of payment. Here are some links that may help you decide what to charge.

11. wow congratulations
I think the gay Time is indeed a fair description so it is quite an accomplishment to break in there. I would be walking on clouds right now, good for you.

Let us know what issue when you find out, I'd love to look for your photos.

even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.
