A couple of newbie questions -
What are these two white spots in the picture?

Hoping someone can help me here, so it can be avoided in the future. I don't doubt for a minute that it's something I did wrong rather than the camera or computer, since this is the only time it has happened. Have a feeling it might have to do with using the flash. Will it be an ongoing problem until I learn how to take night/indoor shots without it?

It show up in both the original (resized down down down):

and the close up I was working towards:

Is there a 'fix' for something like this? (Guess I could take a Sharpie to the monitor and black them out.)

---

And then there's the leaf in this shot...

Couldn't reach out and move it, or there wouldn't have been a shot at all. So I'm left with an out of place leaf. Is this where a program like (shudder) photoshop comes into play? So much to learn as is, adding photoshop or it's equivalent might break my tired old brain.

1. Could Be Dead Pixels
Or dust on the sensor.

Photoshop is your friend in these matters.

3. Hmm, dust.
Hadn't even thought of that, thank you.

Dead pixels? Do they come and go? I know nothing except it hasn't happened in any pics since those. Just took a couple of shots of a blank wall to check again - no white spots.

Dust specks would make more sense to me than dead pixels (unless they do come and go - I'm such a dolt).

Thank you again for your help.

2. I'm no expert but that was the first thing that came to mind
the dead zone. Dead pixels, because it went white.

4. Thank you 48percenter.
It does look like 'dead' pixels, but the problem hasn't recurred. A couple specks of dust, as Crisco suggested, would make sense, too, since it hasn't appeared before or after.

I'm at a loss, and that's why I asked here. If there is something wrong with the camera, I'd like to catch it while it's still under warranty. If it's the picture taker (me), my warranty ran out long ago.

thanks again.

7. Here's something from the web on dead pixels
http://www.digitalkb.com/digital_photography/knowledge_base/dead_pixels/

If it reoccurs, and said camera is under warranty, send it in to make sure. Now the photographer....hmmmm

5. First off, I am amazed the Secret Service
let you get that close to the President, but that said, I believe the white spots are reflections of the flash in the eyes.

On camera flash, yes? Mounted just above the lens? Most likely in some kind of pulse fire, anti-red eye mode.
