Leslie Gulch (10 pix)
Leslie Gulch is on the eastern edge of Oregon, where a now small creek has cut its way through volcanic rock.

2. Our mother Gaia has created some wonders, and had the benevolence
to give most of us (about 1/4 unfortunately excepted) the ability to look out on her creations and be pleased. A while back I saw a photo of some monkey sitting in a mountain ridge just staring out at a sunset. More kin to me than those who now rule the world.

5. Fantastically beautiful.
The colors just jump out of the picture. Did you do any post-processing?

6. Thanks! Minimal processing was used.
Mainly Fuji Velvia 50, a polarizers, and good light.

With few exceptions, I scan slides with no corrections or sharpening or other processing done by the scanner software, other than converting the sensor data into numbers appropriate to some color space definition. I use Picture Windows Pro to do the sharpening and resizing as needed.

The main processing tool I use is Transformation/Gray/Brightness Curve. Velvia is a very contrasty film. When projected, the eye can adapt and see the shadow detail and the highlights, but if printed or scanned, that detail is lost unless something is done. When making prints from slides in a chemical darkroom the preferred technique is to make an internegative so that contrast masking can be done. The Brightness Curve adjustment does the same thing (and more). By modifying contrast within various ranges of the image, it also helps bring out (or obscure) the details of the data the represents the image.

For the before/after comparison, following are Pix #1 and #2, just scanned and reduced with sharpening.
