Faux-Macro
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 10:59 AM by Crisco
Recently there was some minor discussion on close-up rings and reversing rings, as opposed to using a true macro lens. Some examples:

With Reversing ring:

With 1-3 Close up lenses:

I need to go back and play more with the reversing ring, but my general impression, so far, is that you can get great microscopic action, but the focal plane seems barely wider than a hair, and you have very little control over the focal distance.

1. I think that's true of macro lenses in general
that you get very thin DOF at large apertures. I find I generally use f/8 to f/16 or even smaller with my macro lens.

2. I have read that with a macro lens
you want your subject to be uniformly parallel with the front of the lens if possible, not always an easy thing to accomplish.
