First photos with new Canon 20D!
I'm a brand new Canon shooter (as of about 3 hours new) and just wanted to share a few photos I took with my new 20D as soon as the battery charged. I have been a Nikon shooter for years (FM, FM2, FA) but when my last workhorse died a few weeks ago, I decided it was time for a change. Hopefully I'll be posting a lot more in this group now. Here are a few photos I shot this evening. I really haven't even taken the time to read the manual, I was just too excited to do that - I had to start shooting! Oh yeah, I shot all of these with a also newly purchased Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 which seems to be pretty kick ass.

You'll like the 20D. It's what I have - I just got mine in November, so I'm kind of a newbie, too.

Oh, and since you've got the great new camera, please be sure to enter the June photo contest ... the topic is "showing their personalities - people pictures."

2. Very nice...
...but I hope this forum isn't about to devolve into a perpetual Canon-Nikon war, like just about every other photography site on the 'net. :-(

By the way, what are all those tags with the multicolored strings and names of deceased entertainers?

3. Mea Cuppa on mentioning camera brand name.
I guess my excitement got the better of me last night and I wasn't thinking clearly. Personally, I don't care what anyone shoots with as long as they're happy with their choice and are having fun in the process. I'm just thrilled to have a functioning camera once again.

6. Woo hoo on the new camera
and I also hope you enter the contest.
As to telling us you have a D20 you are ok with saying what you have and even better that you are happy about it. Hell I was bad about mine and all. It good to know what a photo was shot with. Wait until you get a what lens, what settings question. Great pics and wow on the just getting it and having some great things to shoot on the test run. But what are the sticks with the names? It is a neat shot.

10. I'm not sure what the sticks are to tell you the truth.
A guy who lives on his sailboat has them pinned all around his boat. He wasn't around when I shot this or I would have asked him about it. I've wanted to take this photo for the past several weeks - every time I go running I pass the boat and think what a cool shot it would make.

7. So far we haven't had
the Canon/Nikon wars here and with the group we have I don't see it happening. Both brands have some damn fine cameras and there are other fine brands out there too. When someone ask me I usually refer them to reviews and ask them what they already have. If you have lenses that will work with a DSLR already why not get that brand. Though I have seen some pretty adamant conversations on which is better elsewhere but I tend to avoid them. Anyone started that here we might have to make them permanent contest host and have them come up with a different prize for winners (like a donation to DU in the winners name)

8. So, what did you do with your old Nikon lenses?
Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 05:39 PM by priller
And also curious as to why you went to Canon after using Nikon all these years. Not wanting to start a war, now, I'm just curious. Could you not use your lenses on a digital SLR?

9. So far I haven't done anything with my old lenses.
I don't know that I really have anything of much worth (mainly because of the wear and tear on them.) I decided on the Canon after doing a lot of research and talking to people. As far as sticking with Nikon so I could use my old lenses, part of the reason I decided against that is because my eyes aren't quite as young as they once were, and I found I really needed to make the switch to autofoucs. (All of my gear before was 100% manual, so a complete switch was necessary.)
