Printing digital photos?
I know someone has probably asked this before, but does anyone recommend a printer for printing digital photos? Most of my pictures are just casual pictures..so I only need it to print the standard size photo, but I'd like to know which printers are good quality.

Also, does anyone happen to know how the cost of printing your own digital photos compares to having them printed at a drugstore, CVS type place?

Thanks for any input. :)

1. I have an Epson Stylus RX620
Prints out wonderful photos. The downside is the ink is semipermanent. If you need permanent ink, you have to go with a higher grade printer or do the drugstore schtick. Overall, stick with Epson rather than HP. Go to Epson's website and see what they have. Many times they have refurbished printers for little money. The Photo Stylus 750 that I had before this all-in-one was a refurbished and it was still going strong at 7 years. I needed a new scanner so I opted to get an all-in-one.

2. Any Epson Stylus Photo printer
will do well enough for snap shots. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 925, and it prints well up to 8.5 x 11. I don't remember how much it cost, though. I think it was around $150.

Whatever you buy, check to see how much the ink for it costs before you make a decision.

3. I use an Epson 2200 and I'm happy with it,
but if you're just looking to print out pictures up to 8x10, you don't need such a large-format printer.

When I want a bunch of 4x6 or 5x7 prints, I just order them from Shutterfly. (Unless I need them that day for some reason). It's a lot easier and less time-consuming than printing and trimming them at home, and I've never had a problem with their quality.

I know there are non-professional photo printers meant for people who just want to print standard-size prints at home. That might be the sort of product you should look at, but I don't know anything about them.

4. Most HP printers do a good job
But the ink will cost you an arm and a leg. My most recent was an 842C, which did a fantastic job as far as quality

I just switched to a Canon Pixma 5000. I am happy so far but I have not had long enough to know for sure whether I will be as pleased with the color quality and durability. (But I sure like the lower ink costs!)

The color in home printed photos doesn't last as long as professionally printed (unless you buy special ink). Also most run when they get damp - professionally printed photos can often tolerate a little dampness.

I print quite a bit at home, but ones I want to last I print through Shutterfly or Ofoto.

I haven't done a cost comparison. My printing at home is mostly because I'm too lazy to take the memory to the store to print it.

5. Ok, the consumables are high
but I love my Olympus Camedia P400.
Wow it makes incredible prints. Frankly I usually can't tell the difference between it and commercial prints.
