I think my eye is not bad...I need to admit I love photography....
...and get into it.

Most of my pictures are typical family pictures, or protest pictures. But I really love to take pictures, and I think I have a good eye.

I posted this in the Lounge, but I'd love to share it here. I'm ga-ga about this picture. Of course, it's my son. But I'm really into the composition. Anyway, I thought I'd see what the seasoned folks think from an artistic p.o.v.

Thanks.

1. Hi Rene... I wondered when you would wander over here
Nice Pic.
The Stair iron is kind of ominous, don't you think? But, that's psychobabble...

actually, I think the composition is very interesting. I really like the bits of flowering dreck scattered around.

4. Thanks.
I like the details in the tree trunk too. That was a beautiful tree btw. I actually took a picture of it. Let me find it and I'll come back.

2. I like the way the diagonal of the railing divides the frame...
By the way, have you tried rotating and cropping so that the window and the railing's upright support are straight rather than tilted to the right? I'm not saying that would improve the image, but, if this were my photo, I would try it first and see which version looks better to you.

3. No, I haven't messed with it at all.
I need to get a graphics program.

Anyone know of a good free one?

I was thinking the same thing tho. Especially sinche the tree, my sone, and the railing divide the picture in thirds, it might be better to have the lines straght.

Thanks!

6. Rotate and crop, or perspective manipulation
have you tried rotating and cropping so that the window and the railing's upright support are straight rather than tilted to the right?

I like that idea. Now that I look closer, the child actually seems to be leaning backward slightly, and the same rotation would correct that. However, it would also likely make the tree appear to be falling over. Maybe a perspective manipulation would work better. That would then require cropping some to get it back to a rectangular image, but you'd be cropping out relatively uninteresting stuff at the bottom corners of the original pic.
