An eagle in a tree...
Here's my first shot with the 70-300, and I'm pretty happy with it, given what I was working with. The bird was in the top of the tree, it was foggy and dark, and I didn't have the tripod, but I think the image stabilizer worked pretty well for having the lens all the way out to 300 and being hand-held. I just had to do a little lightening up and cropping when I got home.

1. Very nice...
I didn't know the 70-300 had IS, too. That's great.

We get eagles down here, with a nest in one of the firs at the end of the block, but they're long gone by the time winter comes. I don't think I've ever seen an eagle in snow before -- it looks hunkered-down, and not all that thrilled about it!

2. We have many more eagles in the winter
than in the summer, for some reason. Eagles and ravens kind of rule the roost around here this time of year. Later we get huge flocks of Bohemian waxwings. The best time of year for birds here, though, is in the early spring when all the water birds come back. I love the sound of the geese returning at the end of the long winter.
