The door on J.K. Rowling's website ....
I believe it only appears when an announcement is about to be made -
is this correct?

Because it's there now, although it remains closed.

1. The Do Not Disturb sign ususally
hangs on the door. JKR did do a couple of updates about the ebook scam, owls and her home in Scotland on the site. The latest hub bub (not from JKR) was that the publishers websites reflected 762 pages for HBP... (Methinks that is 200 pages too short...) ;)

2. Yes, the sign is there.
I'd not seen the door before, but I've heard about it - Peeves
comes through, and keys appear to open the door.

At the moment, Peeves just comes through if you wait, but that's all.

I think this is one of the most imaginative websites I've ever seen.
I can't get it to load on our home computer, but I can get it here
at work.

3. JKR does like to make opening the door a tad challenging:
when Peeves comes through - that is just the beginning of the fun. The door opens to riddles and other items that make you figure it out before the clue about Half Blood Prince is revealed. The day the door opens it is mentioned on every HP website in the world (at least our internet - don't know which one r's use)and most people try to figure it out themselves.

I like scoring the extra's for my scrapbook on the site - gotta work at that too! ;) You can use the text version at home and get paid for building your scrapbook at work. That is what Harry & Ron would do....
