Fans, stars say farewell to Harry Potter
Thousands of fans have braved the rain and battled security restrictions in London's Trafalgar Square to say farewell to the boy wizard Harry Potter at the world premiere of the final movie in the record-breaking series.

(snip)

For a generation of Potter fans, the films have extended the wizarding world created by British author JK Rowling in her seven-book saga which began in 1997 and concluded in 2007.

More than 400 million copies have been sold around the globe, making Rowling the first author billionaire.

I've never been very happy with the films - far too much has to be left out, and for me, there has always been too much emphasis on the children and the special effects, leaving the excellent adult actors playing bit parts, and their characters reduced from interesting and sometimes complex characters to cyphers.

But there's no doubt, the release of Deathly Hallows Pt. II really is the end of the ride, and there's a bit of sadness about it.

Final word from Alan Rickman (who else?)

"This thing has a beginning, a middle and an end. That's why it's a good story and this is the end."
