so i need to start a new series...
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 05:19 AM by MalachiConstant
i've read jordan, goodkind, brooks, the dragonlance stuff, eddings, and most of the typical scifi/fantasy stuff. i'm at an impasse; i've read all of the stuff (or refuse to read, a la jordan's wheel of time series which i refuse to pick up again until he finishes it) the authors i regularly follow have put out. so, i need something new to occupy my time. i was thinking of picking up r.a. salvatore he seems to have a pretty big following. any thoughts or suggestions?

1. Have you read any of The Riftwar-Series by Raymond Feist?
He also has lots of other series.

2. Just Started Steven Erikson's "Malazan" Series
Pretty good so far...

Have you read Robin Hobbes? That's a completed 9 book series (essentially) that's terrific! Start w/ the Assassins Aprentice, then move on to the Liveship Traders and then the "Fool" trilogy..

6. George R R Martin's series "A Song of Ice and Fire"
is excellent.

You also would enjoy the Fionavir Tapestry and other books by Guy Gavriel Kay

excellent books.

Try Brian Lumley's long vampire seris: first volume is "Necroscope"

Read all of Robin Hobb's books.

7. Try Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
It's more difficult than the stuff you've been reading - i.e. the language is definitely tougher and the concepts broader - but it's worth it. The story's better.

Otherwise, try Sherri Tepper's more fantasy stuff, like The Gate to Women's Country, A Plague of Angels, and Singer from the Sea.

8. i ended up going with
feist's magician: apprentice. the barnes & noble near me didn't have black company. i forgot to mention that i had tried reading george rr martin and wasn't overly impressed. i thought the plot was good, but i just didn't like that he seemed to jump around so much. every chapter seemed to cover a different set of characters, i guess i'd rather just follow one person's perspective.

so, i'm going to give feist a go.

11. It's a good series. I just recently reread them.
If you like it you may also like.

I have these books in hardback and they are worth every penny.

12. i just finished feist's first book,
magician: apprentice. i really liked it, i was just disappointed that once pug is captured by the tsurani you don't really here from him again. i really like him, it just seemed a bit odd to completely ignore the main character and spend the final 100 pages on the seige at crydee, which until that point had been completely ignored. oh, i was also kinda pissed that roland managed to get with the princess, ah well. i just hope to go back to pug being the main character.

9. Stephen Lawhead's
Merlin/Arthur series (except the last one in "present day" - that sucked.)
