So I'm on an antidepressant now... Trazodone.

It feels like failure... though I know that's not true. It wasn't my psychologist who prescribed it... it was my GP.

Anyway, I'm sleeping better, and feeling better. Hopefully that will continue.

Anyone else taking Trazodone? Has it changed your dreams at all? Mine seem much more vivid and memorable now.

1. Failure is not doing something to protect your health when you become ill
There are people out there who refuse to get help for a mental illness because they don't believe in taking them "happy pills" or they are too proud to take psychiatric medication and see a shrink. Guess what? They are miserable, and they will stay that way until they break down and get help or die, probably at an early age. There is no way to think your way out of a mental illness. Those who claim to have done that are just experiencing a remission or lying.

2. i was put on it for fibro. the dreams were amazing.
like a nightly pleasant acid trip. my daughter was also on it for a while. it does help a lot of people with sleep, so it is often given where sleep disturbances are part of the picture. old drug that works well for a lot of people.
i did have a bad time with the stuff, tho. i was downright miraculously healed, pain free, energetic, thank you jesus. but it did turn into a pretty manic state. edge, afraid, motor mouthed and fidgety. i had to say good bye. sadly.

3. Yes, sleep disturbance is the main reason she said I should try it.
She had me fill out the depression questionnaire and said mine was mild to moderate, but I have so much trouble sleeping that she suggested I take it for at least a month and see how things went. Poor sleep means I don't have the energy to work out, and that only feeds into the depression it seems.

It was much more pronounced at first, the dream stuff. The effect was strong the first few nights I took it, I felt that drugged feeling, and the dreams were pretty intense. Lately though I don't feel that drugged feeling as I drift off, and the dream stuff seems to have calmed down as well.

4. it calmed down quickly for me, as well, but
if you are having sleep trouble, you should see a sleep doc, if you can. shrinks tend to look at sleep as a symptom, instead of a very possible underlying cause. especially for depression.
there are something like 80 sleep disorders. specialists see everything through their own little magic decoder ring. they may be great at what they do, but they don't know what other specialists know.
and there are more specific meds out there for sleep. with fewer side effects.

but, most importantly, take care, honey.

5. I believe my father takes it.
And has been for a long time. I'll have to ask for sure, but I'm pretty sure he does.

If it helps people dream I want some. I hardly ever dream at all, and when I do it's just boring crap. Helloooo, it's a dream...where's the lasers and flying cars?!?!?!111!!! :)

7. The first person to invent a dream recorder will make Bill Gates look like a beggar.
I'd spend all my time awake watching all my time asleep. :)
