Zyprexa, anyone care to share their experiences?
Mixed with vicodan for pain and a small daily dosage of xanax. Looking for what to expect from the Zyprexa mostly.

1. This was my experience -
http://money.cnn.com/2006/12/16/news/companies/elililly_zyprexa/index.htm

I didn't even know there was a lawsuit until a few months ago. I'm not much for suing though, if I want to be verbally abused; I just visit Mom and my 2 repugnant sisters.

Felt like hell, exhausted and constantly a bit 'out of it' until I finally refused to take it anymore.

I imagine much depends on individual brain/body chemistry.

Avoid Risperadone like the plague, if for used for bi-polar and not for major schizophrenia symptoms, slept 18 to 20 hours a day on it for 5 months, while taking care of my mom, who had a partially torn Achilles tendon and my SD, who just basically never cooked or did laundry ever in his life.

I seriously could not carry on a conversation, brain went dull badly.

jmhex with the Zyprexa. Huge weight gain and am now Type II. Diet/busy has caused loss of 27# in last year, figure I'll be back to "normal" in 2 to 3 more years.

I'm slow, but sure. Xanax good. :)

Good luck to you shadow. :hi:

2. no experience, but
i can tell you that it is a crap shoot. i can't wait for them to come up with a better way to find the right drug for people than this dart game that they use now. not only finding the right drug, but finding the right dose. without combing it with the wrong drug for some other symptom. having a good pharmacist, and talking with them, reading your warning notices, and educating yourself are the best strategies for finding that one that works for you.
it takes a long time, and it is trial and error, and it sucks. the only thing that sucks more is being ill and not getting treated.
hang in there shadow. got my fingers crossed for you.

3. Zyprexa made Doug's life possible. He went from having episodes
once a week to being able to work.

There were very serious downsides. The diabetes became nearly unmanageable and he gained a bunch of weight. His energy level was very curtailed.

We kept trying similar drugs that didn't make him hungry or sleepy. That's pretty much the challenge.

4. what else did you try that had some success?
I really can't afford the potential weight gain right now. My doctor really shouldn't have put me on it for that reason but now I'm kind of stuck with it until I find something else.

5. They all seem to induce some weight gain but less so, Geodon.
Iirc, the doc also gave him some anti-depressants to counter the sleepiness. It was a constant negotiation of small changes.
