Bipolar bears check in here
Bipolar disorder type II (depression dominant); have been taking Paxil CR 25 mg and Depakote ER 1000 mg for a while now, very successfully. Depakote is nothing short of a miracle drug for me--I tolerate it well and it really keeps me stable.

1. I have a bipolar related illness
Shizoaffective disorder. I have symptoms of both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I take lithium to control my mood swings and it has worked well even though I'm taking a anti-depressant right now. My depression isn't intense like it was before I started taking the lithium so it has worked to some extent there. I haven't had a manic episode since I started taking lithium. I used to take Risperdal and Depakote for my illness, but I really started packing on the pounds with that combination and stupidly I quit taking those drugs instead of consulting with my psychiatrist. About four months after I stopped using the drugs I relapsed. That's when they put me on the current combo of Geodon and lithium and more recently Wellbutrin. I'm still depressed, but nothing like I experienced when I was in the throes of my illness.

2. Probably same diagnosis here-
Have been depression dominant for quite a number of years. Currently on Cymbalta (60mg) and Abilify(.5mg) due for a recheck in two weeks. They both seem to be working pretty well except I may need to up the Cymbalta dose again before we're settled on a dosage. Abilify puts me out like a light but I wake early- between 4-6am! LOL

4. Congrats
I'm Bipolar II, among other things.

On Lithium now, although I have had Depokate in the past. Glad it works for you.
