Fake resignation letter at work
The letter went something like this:

Dear

When I was hired at this company I was told that I would work 8 hour days, no weekends. I was diagnosed as mentally ill by a doctor, and I don't think I can take it anymore. I can't sit here while hallucinating, and it's really hard for me to drive to work under those conditions. I have also been having really bad mood swings. So I'm sorry, I have to resign.

Okay, this letter really got to me. I know that the people at work are clueless (at least I hope they are) about my conditions. I have bipolar 1 (mood swings) with psychotic features (hallucinations). I worked while hypomanic, depressed, mixed episodes (both depressed and hypomanic), I have worked through hallucinations on more than one occasion. It's so bad that I can't drive. I'm 24 and I have never had a drivers license. I freak out, I black out for a couple seconds, it's just not safe for me to drive at this point. Basically, I am everything that they said in the letter, but I have managed to keep this job for almost a year now.

I keep going back and forth on whether to be insulted or not. I know they don't know about the hallucinations and stuff. I don't know how they can know. I keep it to myself at work. I know they did not write this to offend me. But still, they were making fun of almost exactly what I go through.

*sigh*

I don't know if I have a point for writing this other than to get out some negativity.

Thanks for listening :)

1. We're the last minority it's okay to ridicule and discriminate against
And ain't it grand? :eyes:

I even run into some of this kind of crap on DU. For example, there was a thread about how somebody called the suicide hotline and got put on hold. Just barely funny, and quite tasteless, IMHO. But some people still thought it wasn't offensive, even here.

Sometimes, I don't think people will ever get it.

2. Some other people also get discriminated against
Some jobs won't hire you if you are obese because it will raise their medical insurance costs (yeah, we don't need single-payer, do we?). It doesn't matter if the lithium and other meds have caused me to go up in weight a lot, and the depression makes it so hard to cook food and exercise. But, no, I'm lazy because I'm obese.

Gays, lesbians and bi people are still made fun of. "That's gay" is derogatory. Luckily, my company has some nice gay people, and they are in high positions of the company, so there is not too much gay bashing at work, but I know people who would disown their kids if they found out their kids were gay. But that's okay, because they chose to be gay.

People who don't give into pettiness are made fun of the petty. You would think my co-workers were all high schoolers by the way they act. They don't like me because I don't kiss butt, and I don't let them get out their ego problems on me. There are plenty of TV shows out there where the petty people do horrible things to the serious people, and the petty people walk out with a million. And that makes good TV :puke:

I could go on, but those are at least the other ones that relate to me. I'm just used to being made fun of, it's sad. But when you are a fat, mentally ill, half-Mexican (been discriminated against as white as well as Mexican) and so on, it's just part of life.

I just don't understand why people just don't grow up?

4. Someone at work. They said it was this random guy
These two guys at work don't quite like each other, and so they do pranks and such to each other. This letter was written by guy 1, but it used guy 2's name (basically saying he thinks guy 2 is crazy and needs to resign).

It had nothing to do with me, but it was just freaky how they described what I go through.

5. Oh! I see now. It is freaky the way people really do know
more than they know they know about mental illness.

:)
