And the cat came back...
The tonsillectomy went Ok. First day home, it hurt like hell and the pharmacy computer was down, and I got pretty pissed off,but I remembered another nearby pharmacy had my info too so we went there and I got my painkillers faster.,Now it's not hurting as bad. Everyday it gets a little less sore,It still looks gross tho.with stitches and all..

I asked at the hospital if I could see my own tonsils when they took them out,but they never got around to showing me them. I was kinda disappointed because they psyched me out telling me how gross and strange tonsils look when they are out of your body.I was really curious to see them.Oh well.I was surprised at how fast this operation went and how quick I recovered. The doc who did the operation he knew his shit.

I am on hydrocodone(sp).Tastes like crap,(nasty cough syrupy taste)but it works really well.I'm sitting here because I am waiting to take my last dose and go to bed at 2.I don't wanna wake up in pain after an hour asleep ,that would just suck. The medicine makes me feel kinda loopy and tired, but at least I can function, eat,be awake and talk. My throat looks really weird .No uvula,no tonsils, just a smooth tunnel.I gotta be careful if I tilt my head certain ways when I swallow liquids what I drink comes out my nose..However breathing is so easy now.Eating soft foods and I'm getting sick of it already.

Funny thing ,I dunno if it's a side effect of the medicines or from, the healing process itself,or what..(my tongue was clamped out of the way I guess somehow during the operation as it is sore too and has a small cuts on it)..I can't taste sweetness. My tongue cannot recognize sweet at all. It's weird as hell. I eat ice cream, expect a sweet taste and it's not there,it's rather bland like unsweetened cream, slightly bitter from the chocolate I guess ,.Things taste dramatically different.I got a slur-pee(and the icy cold slush felt awesome on my pissed off throat) and it was kinda bitter and watery it was supposed to be cherry..I hope the taste effect goes away soon,it's strange and I miss sweet taste..I will get a drop of honey on my tongue tomorrow and see how it tastes.Usually when you eat honey, the sweet taste overpowers it. I wonder what the more subtle flavors of honey are? Nows the time to find out when sweet tastes are masked.I might as well taste stuff because if my taste goes back to normal,I dunno when I'd have such an opportunity to taste this different way again.Hey it's something to do,rather than be bored recovering, right?
Anyways I am healing up surprisingly fast.I'm impressed and my mom is too. It is a breeze to sleep now. It's much easier to use the cpap, they told me to use it until the swelling goes down...Thanks everyone for your kind words and thoughts.
Looks like every things gonna go fine.
Take care!

3. Big hug for you

I'm glad the operation went well and that you are recovering ok. I know exactly what you mean about the Hydrocodone syrup. I once had a cough syrup with Hydrocodone and it was nasty. Nowadays though they can put good flavors in (though the price is outrageous).

I'll look back to see how your honey experiment goes.

4. glad to hear you
are healing well. both hubby and middle child (19) had them done this year. he healed a lot faster that her for some reason. he is feeling better and sleeping better. but, he said it took a long time for it to stop hurting altogether. tonsils as an adult is a hard thing.
but it sounds like you will mend quickly. take good care of yourself, and don't push too hard. get your rest.

6. funny tasting
Sometimes the anesthesia can make things taste odd for a while. I had emergency surgery when I was 19, and for months I could not stand any kind of cola drink or even brown-colored sodas- the flavor made me ill. After while the effect wore off, but I also learned how sensitive I was to regular anesthesia.

Glad to hear your surgery went well. The docs took out my tonsils when I was about 3.

7. I had that surgery at 19 and it was
awful. Glad you made it through. Be careful and don't swallow rough stuff. I know they told you that....

8. panther
how are you feeling now? still improving, or getting frustrated? my hubby got his out this year, and after a week of feeling shitty, he started getting annoyed.
it sucks that they didn't save your tonsils for you. i hate that shit. he also had his gall bladder out last year, and they saved his biggest stone for him. it's cool. i love that gross stuff, myself.

take care, and enjoy the drugs, if you can.

9. I knew you'd do great- you
are a survivor- and a thriver-
Be gentle and tender with your body. Remember to mother yourself as the precious child you are.
I know just what you mean about the honey- tasting the flowers that made the nectar- I love raspberry honey, buckwheat is very heavy... and apple or fruit blossoms are like a new spring day-
Our family used to have bees- and we'd bring hives around to orchards etc. during blossom time to ensure a good crop- the honey was always so 'telling'.

So glad you're on the mend- take your time, and heal well- all good thoughts UP-

blu
