Shit.

It started Thursday,sore throat. ow-ch,coughing coughing..all night.Thinking Oh fuck I got a cold fuck.this.shit.Soon,A searing pain like strep.Is it or not? Maybe it's just drainage.Been draining alot.Wait.

Saturday,night late ,swelling fever, thick mucus dark green.Better go to the doc I thought.Fever.Miserable,cats all worried.Partner all worried.

Sunday Crack'o'dawn..I Call my doc,she says go to Emergency room ,I tell her I can't swallow,oh shit.. Today is the day I find out my local hospital it's run by incompetent dip-shits.I am becoming delirious.I can hardly breathe let alone talk. Every swallow makes tears ooze and I shiver and cringe,I sound like someone with the kind of rasping nasty breathing they get before they die.There is no fucking seat in the packed emergency room near a wall to prop my throbbing dizzy hot head up.Damn. The intake nurse asks the usual insipid questions and she can't understand me.Duh.I pull my cards out she Xeroxes them ,and asks the questions again,so I point at the paper and pen on her desk saying wite,wite can alk. I write it all down, and after typing it in I am motioned to leave, But I sat across and I noticed she leaves my info just laying there. I see it,laying there for ten minutes .So I get up walk my staggering ass over there snatch it and rip it up into little pieces and toss it in a trashcan 'cause identity theft happens you dip-shits.

I wait and finally go to triage,they want to make me drink some water Bwahahahaha..sadists. they look at my oxygen intake ,it's off,I took one sip and just about passed out trying.They stuck my bar-coded ID bracelet on, asked me if I was allergic to anything, I gave them the list they put some brite red armbands on with the offending drugs written in bold black letters.

Anyways I get called back after about two hours trying to avoid being anywhere near the miserable people around me holding puke buckets desperate to avoid setting off my emetephobia.It was like musical chairs in hell. Finally I get moved into a room to be looked at..could it BE any worse?? YES an unused QUIET ROOM! The other rooms were full,my eyes would not stop noticing..No handle on the door,corner camera, those evil slit windows, Arrgh my heart starts pounding,memories I want to close my eyes but I am triggering bad idea..And WonDerFul...A puker is put across the hall. I hear this gagging from the bowels of hell, I shriek and they come running in,I try to tell them about my emetophobia and all , as they swab my throat leaving the door hanging open when they go.FUCK that hurt,(horse doctor!!) Exhausted bless his heart,Partner shuts it. I put on my ipod with loud rave music and desperately try to block out the room, the pain the puker out.I was so triggered it was crazy.He sat near by holding my hand as I moaned to try to keep myself present from switching..
They come back to set up an IV. Bimbo can't find a vein I'm dehydrated(Duh!)I haven't drank shit in a day,eaten in two days..IV machine is fucked up,and there are no others,so they say so they can't get fluids in me..Great.poke poke. they get the IV in .They give me a shot of ativan,and Penicillin and some wimp ass anti inflammatory that don't do shit..Ignoring the allergy armbands.Fuck.they tell me it's OK. I should be better tomorrow. Send me home with a penicillin scrip that the pharmacist is reluctant to give me,but does it anyways it's so close to the drugs that are allergies it makes him nervous. They say it's just strep forgetaboutit.I Go home.I take my dose and my throat burns so bad I scream and writhe and force drink water to get the shit off my throat.Whimpering for a half hour afterwards.I begin to wonder is penicillin NOT a good idea?

Monday!!! Stupid weekend is OVER.
Wake up Arrgh Fuck.Can't breathe, searing pain, Oh shit I wish I could rip my own throat out.Call my doc, she says get thine ass in here now.
She whips out a toungstick and light ,looks at my throat and her eyes bugged out and she said Oh. my. god..Blood tests. A shot.Another safe antibiotic I can take goodie, That'll Kill this shit.As I roll up my sleeve, I look at the jar label as the nurse gets the needle ready,telling me it's gonna hurt like shit, it's prednisone. Hmm.. I remember..that's the same drug they gave my cat when he had throat cancer. (shiver)It made him crazy and he bit my hand.
Anyways Suddenly my arm hurts worse than my throat..I can breathe.She says if it hurts again come and get another shot tomorrow.
Blessed relief for 2 hours,easing up for nearly a day! I drink water like a horse.Eat a bit of cream of crab soup chased every bite with water 'cause the salt burned a little ,took me an hour to eat it but Woweee! Foooood! Real Foooood!

Today, Arrgh Pain.Go get another shot,prednisone,again.And a scrip of a months worth of prednisone pills.
Yikes what the fuck is this shit in my throat? Doc says she does not know...She does know this..It is not strep.
WTF??? Who knows..More tests ..Stay tuned 'Yall.

The shit that life is,it just never stops crapping my way does it? Partner got a skin infection from a flu shot two weeks ago and had to be admitted and get IV antibiotics,I went for a sleep study soon as he got out, now I got this throat shit..May be getting a tonsillectomy soon.WonDerFul!
All I can say it I am so glad I got medical assistance.
With my throat like this..and all these problems at once
I'd be ready to kill myself if I didn't have it.
Let's just hope those weird psychological side effects predisone may cause don't hit me.I found out cloraseptic spray comes in a pocket pack, so I can carry it everywhere..'bout time someone thought of that!
On the good side,hey, I lost ten pounds!On the stress and sore throat diet. And Dammit I hope no one else(except neocons) has to go through this kinda thing. It frickin hurts.
I miss being on DU. I still feel crappy for not being able to call the senators and do my part to push the wimpy Dem's to filibuster. All I did was sign petitions until I was too sick to sit here and type. 1. Stay in touch with your doctor

Prednisone is strong stuff. I used to struggle to keep my son's asthma under control when he was little so he could stay off the prednisone, but boy, when he needed it, it was a literal lifesaver. Now my elderly mom uses it when her lungs kick up. Follow the dosing directions very carefully and call your doctor if there are any problems. Hope you feel better soon.

3. When cortisone type drugs were first used back in the 50's

they were poorly understood and there were some weird incidents. I remember reading about one written up by Berton Roueche who used to write up true-life medical detective stories for the New Yorker. They were collected in a book called 11 Blue Men. Understand, I AM NOT A DOCTOR OR A PHARMACIST, but I would expect the most common side effects from prednisone to be water retention (moon face - my mother hates that) and interference with growth in younger patients (that's why I tried to keep my son off of it when he was little). Remember that the packet insert has to list every possible side effect. If you're having trouble breathing, prednisone can be a literal lifesaver. It really knocks down inflammation, but it's a sledgehammer.I always had to start my son with a massive dose and taper him off gradually.

they give prednisone to 2 year olds and 82 year old grandmothers, so I wouldn't worry about psychosis! By the way - are you feeling any better?
