My first appt
Sorry took so long to post my update..

Went to the Psychiatrist last week. He told me that I need to see a therapist for my anxiety to get desensitized?? He put me on Zoloft 25 for 7 days and then 50 after that. So far the only side effect I've noticed is I get really tired about an hr after I take it.

He also mentioned about putting me on Inderal a beta blocker at the lowest dose. He says it works for anxiety, migrane, and heart conditions. Since I have mitral valve prolapse (he thinks thats a large part of my anxiety), I consulted with my primary care since he knows my entire medical history and he said it wouldnt be a bad idea but only on the minimum dose.

I go back in 2 weeks. I hope I'm doing the right thing by seeing someone about my anxiety. He also doubts me being a hypochondriac.. but he said that we'll go over that at my next appointment.

1. Hiya, purr.
Inderal is a drug I'm not familiar with. (Hey, that makes 1, lol!)

I also have mitral valve prolapse. Hmm.

There's so much stuff that comes up in those first appointments, isn't there? It sounds like he's good at prioritizing stuff and at listening to you.

Did you like him?

2. Hey :)

I dont know if I like him.. he seems to know his stuff but very monotone and doesnt really seem to show any emotion. I'll go a few more times to see how things go.

The mitral valve thing is very common in causing anxiety from what I've been reading, its called mitral valve prolapse syndrome (i think thats the right term). MVPs is its abbreviation.

He is good at prioritizing.. he didnt want to go over everything at once - just one thing at a time.

4. As far as being a hypochondriac goes...
it sounds to me that your body is trying to tell you that something is wrong (but I'm not a doctor). Hypochondriac is a term that gets thrown around when people are sick and other people can't figure out why so they say they other people are making it all up. You really are sick and you're getting the problem fixed. You're doing the right thing, so hang in there and keep going!

5. Beta blockers
are traditionally an anti-hypertensive perscription, which also short circuits some of the neural pathways used in our "flight or fight" reactions.

They can be very effective for some people with certain problems.

The reason to worry about your dosage is that you don't want to suffer from low blood pressure. Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but its something to be aware of as a potential side effect.
