If I started a thread like that, I would be banned before the posts got to 50. It drives me NUTS. Geez, some of these people are as bad as Fundamentalists with the "only MY way is correct" thinking. It's funny because these same people who are like "if you're in the majority you can't be persecuted" will turn around in threads about affirmative action and scream bloody murder about "reverse racism".

3. Their 'logic' really crashes and burns on one point..

the people who post the most obnoxious things abt religion (except Islam, designated as the 'other' DU acceptable faith other than atheism) constantly say that they are addressing them to the religious far right, fundies et al. But the people reading their posts are fellow DU'ers. And they know that. Their posts go well beyond what one might consider 'venting'. As far as I'm concerned, their intent really is to bash the DU'ers who do not fall into the acceptable faith categories. If they want to bash fundies, they should go stand in front of a fundamentalist church and express their views in real life as people leave services.

What they can't see when they do this is -- we become our own worst enemies when we turn around an eat our own; we become easily divided and then conquered by those who are outside our ranks.

This is what saddens and frustrates me so much about the blatant hate and ignorance shown toward some religions here on DU -- especially Christianity and Catholicism in particular.

A question I would like to see asked: If you attack me for my deeply held and personal beliefs -- if I cannot get any respect from you for holding those beliefs no matter how much you may disagree with them --is it not much of a stretch to think that at some point I may then reconsider my place in this party?
