More Republican idiocy from Mittens!

Romney: U.S. Needs Skilled Immigrants

By LAURA KURTZMAN

LOS ANGELES - Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney told the California GOP convention Saturday the United States should encourage foreigners with skills to immigrate, while discouraging those who come here illegally and without skills.

"It is wrong for us to build an absolute concrete wall against those with skills and enterprise," he said, referring to foreign students who come here for advanced study, "and have a wide open door for people with no education and no skills."

His remarks were greeted with enthusiastic applause from this conservative crowd, for whom illegal immigration is a hot issue. Romney, a Republican governor in a Democratic state, is exploring a presidential run in 2008. California, with its reservoir of campaign cash, is a key stop along campaign trails.

Romney, a social conservative, also criticized gay marriage, saying, "every child deserves a mother and a father." He praised President Bush's aggressive foreign and military policies, and said the nation should wean itself from oil.

1. Why do conservatives always think
that they should direct everyone's personal lives? That's certainly not "smaller government". I wish they would stop passing more and more laws to take away everyone's freedom.

Haha--I guess it's true: they hate us for our freedoms!

why is he talking about encouraging foreigners with skills to immigrate and discouraging unskilled foreigners from coming here illegally? What happens if your unskilled and want to come here legally? And what the hell does legal immigration have to to with building an "absolute concrete wall."

What the hell is he talking about?

This is from 1994, when Mitt the Shit ran against Ted Kennedy for the US Senate. (Hey, remember those compassionate conservatives? What ever happened to them anyway?)

KENNEDY, ROMNEY DUEL OVER WELFARE REFORM

Don Aucoin, Globe Staff Date: June 17, 1994

Snip

In venturing into the field of welfare reform -- the subject of one of two TV ads Romney is now running -- the candidate stubbed his toe.

First, in a two-page release spelling out 13 principles of "real welfare reform," Romney suggested that work requirements be imposed on "able-bodied adults without dependents" who are on welfare. Yet to be eligible for welfare, adults must have dependents, usually children.

Manning said later that the press release should have stipulated that Romney meant work requirements should be imposed on those recipients whose children are old enough to attend school.

Romney's proposal calls for denying welfare benefits to illegal aliens, or undocumented immigrants.

However, illegal aliens -- the majority of whom work -- are not presently eligible for welfare benefits unless their presence in this country is known to the Immigration and Naturalization Service, according to state Welfare Department officials.

Manning said the candidate was referring to illegal aliens' eligibility for the Women, Infants and Children program, a food program for young mothers with children.

In addition to the get-tough measures, Romney proposed doubling the tax credit given to employers who hire and train welfare recipients, and helping keep people off welfare by offering tax credits for low-income working parents.

Romney, stupid and out-of-touch then, still stupid and out-of-touch now. I bet he still feels that this is what is wrong with America, we give food to the desperately poor children of undocumented workers. What a total friggin bastid he is.

BTW, this 'Profile in Courage' was afraid to challenge John Kerry for his seat back then. He said this to the Boston Globe in August of 1994:

But he thought the election of (former Gov) Weld and Treasurer Joe Malone in 1990 had changed the political landscape in Massachusetts, and made it less daunting for someone like him. Parties were becoming less important, and there were now more registered independents than Democrats in the state.

He agreed with his wife that Kennedy was an irresistable target. In fact, if Sen. John Kerry had been up for reelection this year, Romney wouldn't be running. "Because Ted, from my standpoint, is really the champion of a political philosophy for an entire country whose time has passed," he said. "John Kerry -- his political views will come and go."

5. Just wait.
If Romney does run, it might just be the most fun thing ever in the whole wide world for me and a lot of other Mass-souls. It has been a long, long time since we got to oppose someone running for Prez. Hehehehehehehe!

Romney has a long and idiotic history of flipping his positions, showing tone-deafness to non-rich working stiffs and so forth. It would be a joy to bring this stuff out, when it is time. A real joy, let me tell you.

6. It must be a requirement
in order to be a Republican politician you must be able to lie and when you are caught just lie some more.

Reached Monday evening, Allen said that the word had no derogatory meaning for him and that he was sorry. "I would never want to demean him as an individual. I do apologize if he's offended by that. That was no way the point." Asked what macaca means, Allen said: "I don't know what it means." He said the word sounds similar to "mohawk."

Oh, you didn't believe that, well

In a four-paragraph statement issued Tuesday, Allen said, "In singling out the Webb campaign's cameraman, I was trying to make the point that Jim Webb had never been to that part of Virginia -- and I encouraged him to bring the tape back to Jim and welcome him to the real world of Virginia and America, outside the Beltway, where he has rarely visited.

"I also made up a nickname for the cameraman, which was in no way intended to be racially derogatory. Any insinuations to the contrary are completely false."

Stupid lying bastids.
