I must post a positive sign.

My husband just participated in his first
candidate forum/Debate in a vehemently Republican neighborhood, He is running for State Senator against(they have a primary, he is unopposed) two incumbent State Representatives who want to bump themselves up to the Senate. One is termed out as Rep. He was the only Democrat in a room full of Republicans. All the other candidates were Republican for all the other offices. This event usually attracts at least 800 people and only 150 showed up!
If I do say so myself , my husband did a terrific job, and garnered much applause. This was unusual as these are ultra right wing candidates and so are the majority of voters. Many people stopped us on the way out and said they were thankful he was running. They also said that they would support him though they were Republican because his philosophy was much closer to what they believe than the Repugs! And lots of women said they were going to support him as they were Pro-choice Republicans and felt they had no representation! In fact many people stopped to say the reason the reason the turnout was so low is they felt that they would only hear the Republican point of view, and they didn't want to bother because they were tired of not being given a "choice. They thanked us again for giving them one! They promised to email their friends about my husband! ANother thing, their local paper put my husband on the front page and it was positive. I am stunned. Will wonders never cease?

1. Kudos to you and to your husband.
Bless him for doing this and you for being there to enable him to do this. (BTW, women run the Democratic Party. If it wasn't for us, nobody would ever show up, get a seat, have a coffe, take a donut, get a flyer, sign a petition, get a phone call or be asked to hold signs. We run the damned thing. We do, in fact, rule.)

Ahm, you know, some of us get paid at different days on the monthly calendar and find that we have a little free cash at disparate moments. You might want to post that website where a 'cashectomy' could be performed and the lovely money siphoned into a very worthy senatorial campaign. There are lots of memory-impaired folks out here who don't recall the website url. Help a fellow Dem out and send me or post to me the website where said 'cashectomy' can occur.

He is a Clean Elections candidate so anyone from out of state or out of District can contribute anything up to a max $120 using the seed money form that can be downloaded at the site.We are grateful for any help.I am so proud of him especially as he most likely will be running against a vicious anti choice female who plays really dirty.

4. That's really wonderful news.
Good luck to your husband. I hope the same feelings are being expressed everywhere in the country right now.

6. I do think we are about to witness a sea change.
My RW dad just visited, and from what he said, I think he really would like to see the Dems take over Congress and stop *'s foolishness. The deficit spending is particularly upsetting to him, as is the Iraq debacle.
I was able to get him to listen to me while I told him that JK might be socially liberal, but he is fiscally conservative much more than *, who is socially conservative but fiscally reckless and totally uninterested in balanced budgets. Just the fact that he was willing to talk about "what might have been" was a real surprise to me.

I think most Republicans are simply fed up and waiting for a change. And of course the Dems have already been at that point for a long, long time!
