General Casey proposes troop cuts
Look what was happenening while Congress debated. This is absolutely not Kerry's plan, but it puts "cut and run" in perspective. Warner had to have some inkling of this when he debated Kerry.

1. Now what are all of those that were on the Senate floor
arguing against the dems gonna say?

This is another reason why Kerry should be President, he gets it.
Kerry wouldn't have stuck his neck out if he didn't know it was time to discuss this.
Or is it possible that Kerry knows more about what is going on in Iraq than this administration does?

2. He has referenced General Casey often
This is not the nearly complete withdrawal by mid 2007 that Kerry demands - not even close. It does match at least what the Democratic alternative was. However, the Democratic alternative wouldn't exist without Kerry putting his amendment out - as well as Feingold and Harkin doing theirs.

I wonder if the fact that Americans aren't into nuance won't help Kerry here - all last week the stupidest, least respectable Republicans called Kerry the worst things imaginable. Kerry responded with dignity and logic.

3. I give Sen. Kerry high marks for not losing it
That twerpy little creep Sessions even mentioned Davos. (I can't stand that idiot.) I bet there were some choice words behind closed doors though.

4. I wonder if Sessions is even smart enough to
how inferior he is to Senator Kerry. I was amazed at how focused Kerry stayed on the issues, ignoring all the nasty comments.

As to Davos, maybe Sessions is just hurt they never invited him - just Senators capable of rational thought.

5. Do you ever feel
that Kerry is just far superior than most, if not all, on the Senate floor--
or am I just prejudiced?

7. yes, he really is
Think of the many times when he has been the voice to call the Senate to re-establish its own values. He clearly believes in what the Senate and our democracy means.

I think the better Republicans deep down see that. After the election, Lugar's words to Kerry at the first SFRC were very nice - commending him on his foreign policy debate etc. Lugar looked down right annoyed when Coleman in a nasty way said he was happy Kerry was back (or something to that effect.) Warner's debate was also a clear show of respect. He also got Kerry to speak about some things that Kerry wouldn't have - Kerry's comments on the soldiers captured and killed were so real and showed his genuine concern would likely never have been said without Warner essentially asking him to respond - Warner saying he knew Kerry cared as much as he did.)

8. this ties into our conversation in the other thread
...the one about why journalists don't get Kerry and call him a phony, etc. It's because they equate his actions on their own level, not his.

I think he does stay above the fray, both because it's bad to make enemies by striking back, and because he doesn't blame them for not being able to think as well as he can. ;)

I'm an educated person, but I'm also smart enough to recognize that he's smarter than I am, and that makes me perfectly content--our leaders should be the best and brightest. :loveya:

9. What the hell is that about?
That's petty BS that doesn't belong on the Senate floor. There are plenty of jabs available all around, not that it should come to that, but plenty of jabs on positions, that the debate doesn't have to sink to such silly debts. Session is an ass!

I was thinking about the composure and focus Kerry maintained throughout the day. It was really amazing to watch, even more amazing to listen to his reasoning.
