TBA Pictures!
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 09:38 AM by TayTay

Sen. Hillary Clinton talks about core Democratic principles. (Before she got booed for her Iraq War stance.)

1. We shook hands with Sen. Clinton yesterday

She was in the hallway at the Senate waiting for an elevator to go down to a vote. Karen called out to her and told her she liked her speech that morning at the TBA. Sen. Clinton came over to each one of us and shook our hands! That was way cool! Nice, nice woman, btw.

2. Capt John Powers pic

Capt Jonathan Powers (:loveya: :loveya: ) introduced Sen. Kerry again. He was, again, wonderful. I was 'indulging me vices' outside of the hotel and saw him again. I joked with him for a while and tried to get him to consider moving to Massachusetts, because someday there will be open Cong. seats. He was amenable to the idea and gave me his Vietnam Veterans of America business card. Sigh! Talented, raw, but talented.

5. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

She was really great yesterday. She delivered a poassionate speech that listed all the things the Rethugs had done to screw up Amrica and then delivered an excellent list of things Democrats plan on doing on day of the new Democratic Congress to fix it.

7. They go home tonight
I am going to a baseball game tonight. (Okay, I didn't see a single monument in DC, but I damn right and well am going to see a ball game. I haven't been at a National League game in years (decades even.) I have my priorities, you know.

Home tomorrow. Then it gets busy, busy, busy.

BTW IB, squee!

8. Squee right back at ya Tay!
Let's see, three days of wall-to-wall liberals, quality time spent with blog buddies, what appeared to be a front row seat at yet another incredible JK speech, a face-to-face meeting with the man, AND a baseball game where pitchers attempt to hit? Damn girl, you must be livin' right. That's all I've got to say.

11. I really like this one

Finally, a few minutes of down time after a fabulously hectic few days. Damn, what a speech. I'm still feeling the crowd reaction.
He really spoke from the heart, and they LOVED him for it!!!

What a rock star, our JK.

12. Oh, total rock star.
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 10:36 PM by TayTay
It was great. There is just nothing like being in a room for a rocking speech with a bunch of fired up people. This speech was like a cool drink to thirsty travelers, boy did they ever need that! (We are spoiled and knew this happens, cuz the Good Senator, ahm, really is that good. LOL!)

Having other folks from this here forum there was so special I could cry. Someday we must get an event together at which we have just dozens of us. That would rock and maybe we could get guest stars even.

14. Tay, I really can still feel the energy from that crowd.
When Hillary gave her speech, I thought, well that was good, with one glaring exception, the crowd was pretty positive. What, two standing O's? Pelosi was good. Not exciting, but good.
But five min into Sen Kerry's speech, I thought, Damn, this man OWNS this room. These people love him. They love what he's saying and the way he's saying it. They cheered. They were on their feet, how many times? I wish I had counted. I just know every time the room stood up for JK, I felt proud of him and of ALL of us, and of what can happen if we keep on hoping and working.
Damn, he was rockin. It was a powerful feeling.

Even on the video link, you can see that he really had that crowd. It's great to hear how well the speech went over. Maybe these people missed this weeks WP pronouncement that no one likes him.

Cuz he is a self-centered fool. Kerry utterly rocked the place. And he doesn't need the idiotic inside-the-beltway bastards who did him no favors last time. Milbank can bite me for all I care. He is blind and can't see further than Bethesda. Friggin no-good bastid.

Apparently "even his supporters don't like him". Everyone apparently voted for him because they decided a veteran could win - he seems to have forgotten that Clark was a possiblity.

17. karyn, you should have been there.
If these people didn't like him, I'd be afraid of the ones that do. I don't think he could have given a stronger speech. He was just the right amount of pissed off. Not too much, not too little. He drove every major point home, and the crowd punctuated each one with applause.
He absolutely rocked the house.

21. The internet video was spell binding in spite of time sync
problems and graininess. The applause could be heard and the surge of people toward the stage as he finished was the last thing seen at the end. I stopped saying he can't give a better speech (cause like Tay Tay said last time I said that there could be a really really special on in January 2009)and because I said that after the Faneuil Hall one, then the American University one, then I thought the Kenyon one was special in its own right. (I also loved the end of the campaign speeches where he was so hopeful and ebullient.)

32. That is the usual reaction I get when I meet people, btw.
Open-throated laughter. (Ahm, I think it's in a good way.) I had just told him that we have a lot of older people in office and they can't live forever and he should move to Massachusetts and consider running for office. Ahm, he laughed at the 'older people' comment. (I think. Maybe it was the pattern I was wearing. It was a bit loud.)

BTW, have I mentioned that I was quite taken with him?

37. I have a question for you GV.
From your photos of JK leaving the stage, it looks like he is being mobbed by the media (and other folks to). Did this happen to Hillary or any of the other speakers? Just wondering. I swear the man's a friggin' rock star.

38. No, it did not happen to the others that I saw.
Hillary and Nancy had people come up to the stage to shake their hands, but not a mob like JK.
He is a rock star. I was lucky to get close enough to take the pics.
The crowd just loved him (as did the camera, as you can clearly see).
I was wearing my 'I *heart* John Kerry' button, and was approached after the speech with how well he did. Very cool.

41. IB: Kerry post-speech reception was cool!
He was mobbed and he almost couldn't get out. (Even men were there trying to talk to him and give him kudos. Honest!)

Kerry had the best speech of the whole event. He was mobbed because he is a rock star. It's funny because he gave the essentials of that speech in Boston. But I guess it has to happen in DC for it to really go on the national news. (And get under the Rethugs skin a bit, hehehehe!)

46. Kerry should use some black and white photos
in his campaign literature. Maybe because he looks like someone who would have been cast in the black and white films as the inherently decent leader fighting for the people or for good. There is something definately old fashioned about him. (Maybe because he is the complete opposite of the 80s or 90s flexible morality.)
