Rains in NE are Kerry's faults.
Of course, McGrory presents that as a joke (in a stupid editorial that Elias comments here:

but the fact that you put that in a joke is in itself sick. But, once again, it is McGrory, so, what can we expect. (I hope that everybody is fine and without too much damage).

Which brings me to one simple little innocent question: What did we do to deserve this?

Is it payback for the World Series championship? Was it the whole John Kerry for president thing? The Patriots dynasty?

1. Yeah, that about sounds like McGrory
You know there is that whole Puritan heritage thingee, "What sin unrepentant of" that still sucks us in. No good deed goes unpunished. Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and all that. In brief, there is always the feeling that someone is out to get you, that no good thing can happen but that it has to be paid for in pain and that while it's nice to dream big dreams, always be ready for the inevitable decline and fall of man. (Hubris must be paid for, it cannot be denied.) Add to that the natural fatalism of the Irish, and well, there is no natural phenomenon that just happens because it's a natural phenomenon. No, it's punishment from an Angry God because of something we said. I hate it when that happens. Sigh! (That's why we have such dry sense of humor. We have to if we have hubris enough to take on the sins of man. What a silly thing to do. Let's do it anyway. That is hubris.)

Sigh! It's all part of life in the leftover vestiges of the Puritan city. This too is our New England heritage. Pass the popovers and the guilt please.

3. Right as rain, er, ahm, fine!
Oddly enough, the doom and gloom of the Puritan belief in all things being doomed combined with Irish fatalism produces people with wicked senses of humor. We are at our very best when adversity strikes. The expression would be, "The world is going to hell in a handbasket. I saw we party."

It's a different sense of humor, I'll grant you, but if you can't laugh at yourself, then you are well and truly lost.

4. Maybe the rains have come to....
wash away the scumbag, third-rate writers like McGrory. If you've ever read the guy's "pulp fiction" you'll know why he's still writing editorials. I tried to read one of his political intrigue novels. Couldn't catch my interest. Same with McGrory himself. Not very interesting.
