If the party would have given half the united front behind Kerry in 2004, he would be President. That they would come together behind a Republican in Democratic clothing who won't even debate his opponent is sick and all the Dkos etc hypocrites who screamed bloody murder when Brown was favored have no problem with this. It hurts that it even includes people like Durbin and Cleland.
I don't know why but this hurts more than anything since the election. Between this and the idiotic Will Marshall article, I wonder if the party as a whole has moved so much to the center that they are saying it was wrong to protest. At first I thought it was defensiveness and annoyance that an official Democrat was swiftboating Kerry, but I realize it's that I feel personally offended as he is rejecting not just Kerry but all of us who don't think Reagan was good.
Although Allen is disgusting and a vote for a Republican majority, I really don't know that I wouldn't prefer Webb defeated. I don't want my party filled with Reagan Republicans (especially ones who were conservative Democrats and left over amnesty for those who evaded the draft.) At a point when people are seeing that the Republican management of government isn't working, why on earth are we moving to become Republicans. I think Kerry had it right, the problem isn't our values.
It's almost like the conservative wing of the party was shocked that Kerry nearly won and was threatened. That they are fighting it by distorting the results to disguise it was close and to ignore that the difference may have been due to party ineptness and Republican corruption in Ohio. It's frustrating to have come that close.
