Committee Hearings this week: By Committee
I feel like I should add a 'Eat you vegetables or you can't have dessert' notion to these postings lately. I know these aren't the most fascinating things on the web, but, dammit, eat your vegetables. They are good for you! (And then you can have dessert, maybe a cookie or a new parody later on.)

11. Cancelled, as feared. No SFRC meeting with Khalilzad
Things are probably too volatile in Iraq to bring Amb. Khalilzad to DC.

Article on this in the WaPo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/02/AR2006040201315.html

Again, don't be surprised if this gets cancelled due to events in Iraq. Otherwise we get to see Condiliar return to the Senate and bullshit her way around the committee. Hijinks ensue when the Democratic Senators reveal they had a pool going on how many lies Condi could actually spew at one Committee hearing and Sen. Obama wins. Sigh!

10. I'd use a less polite term than "lightweight" to describe Sununu.
Unfortunately, it not fit to post on a public board. Let me just say this: he's a Sununu.

No witnesses and no panel. Damn. Ahm, for Gawd's sake, it's Health Care and Small Business. Ahm, Geez, I think the taller Sen. from MA will show. Maybe he can find a witness. (Can I, can I get a witness?)

********************

Ahm, I don't know but there's only 3 friggin people on this sub-committee and one of them is ex-officio. I think the taller Sen. from MA will be there. Plus, he has this cool Statement that's like in the intro and everything. BTW, I have a 401K. I have not been a bad girl and have been attempting to save money. So this might not even be too guilt inducing to watch.

Again, no known witnesses. (Witness protection program?) Ahm, this committee hearing on Science in the Asia Pacific Partnership is from the Global Climate Change sub-committee, on which sits a Sen. from MA. Ahm, I am out of my league here and will leave it at that.

7. Commerce Comm. Offshore Aquaculture 4/6/06 10:00 am

Offshore Aquaculture

National Ocean Policy Study Hearing
Thursday, April 6 2006 - 10:00 AM - SD-562

Webcast: Click here to view a live webcast of this hearing.
Description: The Senate Commerce Committee's National Ocean Policy Study Subcommittee has announced a hearing on Offshore Aquaculture scheduled for Thursday, April 6, at 10:00 a.m. in room 562 of the Dirksen Building.

The United States lags behind other nations in using offshore aquaculture facilities to supplement its domestic seafood production. This hearing will examine current proposals to regulate offshore aquaculture operations, discuss research in this field being conducted off the coasts of New England and Hawaii, and explore the impacts that expanded aquaculture operations would have on fishermen, seafood processors, and consumers.

Panel 1:

Bill Hogarth
Director, National Marine Fisheries Service

Dr. Richard Langan
Director, University of New Hampshire Open Ocean Aquaculture Program

Randy Cates
President, Cates International, Inc.

Mark Vinsel
Executive Director, United Fishermen of Alaska

Dr. Rebecca Goldburg
Senior Scientist, Environmental Defense

Sebastian Belle
Executive Director, Maine Aquaculture Association

******************

Geez, this is a busy week. I think they are trying to cram for the finals, cuz they have the next two weeks off in the Senate after this week. Really, just because some Senators were lazy and couldn't bother to get their hearings scheduled on time doesn't mean they should cram them all together at the last minute before Spring Break. Geez.
