I voted today.... it got Diebolded
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 07:25 PM by WildEyedLiberal
Today was the Illinois primary. I voted absentee in 2004 because I was not going to be in my home district on election day, so I just filled out the ballot and mailed it in.

I was given a similar form this year, a fill-in-the-bubble style ballot. Upon completing it, I found that I had to drop it into a Diebold machine - yes, my tiny rural county in central Illinois uses DIEBOLD. Apparently this is the first election they've used the machines. I dropped in my ballot and WOOSH - it got Diebolded.

I hope my vote counted. :(

2. Yikees!
I think we should go back to the really old fashioned way of voting. You get a piece of paper and a marker - you circle the candidate/issue you're voting for and the votes are hand counted (by more than one person). So friggin' what if it takes a few days for all the votes to be counted and recounted and a winner announced - I've got time. I can wait.

3. sounds like you at least have a paper trail?
I used an e-slate machine in my primary for the first time. No paper record at all. Not good.

6. Check out the Texas forum
They have e-slates and when they went to do the recount print-out, a bunch of ballots didn't print. They are off by 20%. They were also one of the machines that weren't working correctly in Texas in 2004.

All these machines are a mess. Every time one of them "glitches", we need to see the code so we know why. Open them up. Glitchgate.

5. It didn't really make any difference to me, cuz I don't live in the 6th
However, JK endorsed her, so I am happy for that. Also a lot of Cegelis' supporters on DU tended to be VERY whiny, immature, and shrill (check out the Illinois group for examples). So I suppose on those levels I'm happy Duckworth is ahead.

7. I saw one
Said he wasn't going to do anything except vote for Duckworth. All his time was going to go to Reedy and Kanhai-Zamora. I guess he'll be poolside this summer, they're losing too. I shouldn't laugh...

9. Its official Duckworth is the winner
I think Duckworth was probably the best candidate, oh and I saw in the Illinois forum someone criticizing her for talking differently to different groups. I am taking a speech communication class and am in my public speaking unit now, its a common thing to do in public speaking so I thought that was a pretty stupid thing to do, I didn't say anything to the person because I have no business butting in to that race. Tammy seems cool though and likable. This race could be interesting, definely more interesting than my congressional election.
