What a change a week brings
On DU-P there's a huge thread on the ROLL CALL article. It almost reads like this group.

1. I saw the thread and it is good.
I have to say I am a little bit freaked after the Democratic answer. Hope it works in the red states because it does not work at all with me. It certainly does not improve my confidence in Reid.

2. Gingrich liked it
I happened to run into Newt on Fox while flicking thru channels after the response, and he was saying what a good response it was. I guess from his viewpoint. . .

3. It was weak
Better written than delivered. Didn't have that fire that he had in the interview I saw. But I think there are alot of security moms who would like it very much. Especially those disgusted with what's happening in Washington. I think it probably reached its target.

4. I hope you're right.
As I said earlier, I am bad judge and clearly not the intended target.

5. I thought it sucked. It couldn't convince anyone. We can't be all things
to all people. The message was we are going to get the Repukes to vote for us by being just like them . We musn't threaten the GOP. It makes them nervous. GAG! Ted Kennedy should have done the response!

6. Next time
We'll just have two women flash their tits with FUCK written on them, and two guys flash their asses with BUSH written on them.

We live in a big country with alot of different people and it takes a combination of all of them to win. We do need fights, but we also need to show we can come together and actually govern too. This guy pointed out the fact that the Bushies are just not governing and he did it with a demeanor and in words the people who we need to hear might listen to. We didn't need anybody preaching to the choir tonight. It could have been better, but it made a new audience listen to a Democrat and that's worth alot.

7. Sorry but he was such a poor orator he couldn't have caught the attention
of anyone yelling "fire' in a theatre. He was a bore and offered no solutions. We can do better ? How? By moving to Va? And not preaching to the choir. Does it occur to anybody that with Bushco's poll numbers in the toilet, maybe Americans are ready to listen to a politician that has something to say? Maybe they are ready for a political party that represents something?

8. I disagree with you
The speech is posted in the Hey Beachmom thread I think. He made a rational indictment and talked about solutions. Education, health care, veterans. The point was to bring it to people's attention that good things are being done by Democrats at the local level and we can do it in DC too. People aren't trusting Democrats in DC, but they are trusting their local Democrats. Looks like we're going to jump off from there.

After the vote yesterday it would seem to me that it should be clear that we have a whole bunch of red to deal with in order to make any progress at all. That's where we're at and those people are voting for Kaine, Schweitzer, Salazar, Herseth, conservative Democrats. I just don't get what purpose throwing fits about it serves.

9. After the vote yesterday, I have decided never to send another red cent
to the party. I will support individual candidates and my local county party. And that is all. They voted against everything I believe in. This was no little thing. They betrayed their oath of office . They did not uphold the Constitution. They played the Constitution in danger by not doing everything in their power to prevent the appointment of a Justice who believes in a Unitary Executive Branch. If they could vote against the appointment of Alito, they could have voted for the filibuster. The only reason not to was because they did not wish to prevent him taking office. This baloney about it could cost their seats is just that. The average voter won't even remember who Alito is by November. They are just afraid of being targeted and they will be anyway. Daschle tried to play nice too and they shellacked him. If anything taking a stand would have actually won them some respect.
And the response was nicey nice acting only mildly annoyed at the major trannsgression of this administration and vaguely promising to do better. Ugh.
If we can do better you would never know it by that speech. We have a Dem Governor in a red state too. And she is a moderate.I was at a breakfast meeting this morning and she spoke with such energy and passion it was a pleasure to hear. She should have given the repose. At least it sounded as though she was interested in what is facing this nation.
