Sen Sweetie has coffee and donuts with his constituents
How come none of you fine Illinoiers ever told me this. I can fake a Midwest accent and pretend to be from IL in order to have coffee and donuts with Sen. Durbin and Sen. Obama. Someone in DU posted a response to a letter sent to Sen. Sweetie (Durbin) and he responded with fairness and all that and then put in this PS

P.S. If you are ever visiting Washington, please feel free to join Senator
Obama and me at our weekly constituent coffee. When the Senate is in
session, we provide coffee and donuts every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. as we
hear what is on the minds of Illinoisans and respond to your questions.
We would welcome your participation. Please call my D.C. office for more
details.

That is way, way cool. I want to do that. (I love Sen. Sweetie.) I think all Senators should do that. (Okay, I understand that everyone has their own style and everything, but still, I want coffee and donuts with Teddy & John. That would be sooooooo coooooooool. "Can I have the last jelly-donut please?" "Sure, I prefer the chocolate ones with sprinkles on them anyway." "Btw, (Tay bites donut) mbount mmmm pwan for Iwhaq? Ah, Mmmm, Ahm, pwan fah Iwaqh. Sigh! That would be soooo cooool!))

1. I saw that.
That is so cool. I could dig that with the Illinois dudes, definitely the Mass dudes and the dudes in NJ too.

Love the munching discussion. LOL!

2. How sweet!
I don't imagine my Senators will be providing free coffee and donuts anytime soon. It just doesn't sound like a very Republican thing to do.

3. Well, it's okay with them if you bring the donuts.
The Imperial Guards at the door to all Rethug places will frisk you, put you through metal detectors and an unplesant probing process and then, maybe, let you in. (Don't sit on the good chairs. The good chairs are reserved for Big Donors. Peons get to stand and should be damn glad we allow that. Now, give me the donuts and state your business and the answer is no.)

You have Dole and that new guy that no one ever sees or hears from, right? (Who is that guy? He took Sen. Edwards seat, right? What'd he do, take a Vow of silence and invisibility?)

4. Richard Burr.

Yes, he apparently lives among a special cloister of nuns who neither speak or show themselves in public. Dole on the other hand, couldn't find North Carolina on a map, even if you threatened to take away Bob Dole's lifetime supply of free Viagra. The least these people can do is give me a friggin' donut.

And I really hate getting frisked by Imperial Guards.

shrinking violet Senators. (Ahm, I think it is fair to say that most Senators are not shrinking violets. I have not experienced this problem myself with local Sens.) You could do a whole, "Where's Waldo?" type thing with Burr. I never see him on the floor. What's up with that? Is he shy or what? What's his position on Iraq? Is he a Bush-bot? Is there any record of him ever saying anything on the floor? (Mabye he's a mythical Sen. from NC.)

Why bother to go to the Senate if you're not going to say anything. Maybe he just likes raising money and having a big office. Sigh!

Oh, and another thing, while I'm babbling incoherently, I don't like how they assign this Junior Senator rank. Sen. Dole is the Senior Senator from NC, even though she has only been there, what 8 years. Sen. Kerry has been in Congress for 22 years and still the Junior Senator from Mass. This is ridiculous. They have to come up with a better naming scheme than that. It's just strange. Kerry is like the 18th most senior member of the Congress and is still formally called, the Junior Senator form Mass. I don't like that. I just don't. (Incoherent babbling now over.)

6. I'm sure they must do something.
News of their feats just never makes it to the outer reaches of the earth. (It's a problem when most of the news we get comes from Virginia.) I don't get the chance to watch Cspan a lot, but when I do I never see either Dole or Burr on the floor. I do know they are both very conservative and more-or-less Bushbots. (They both voted for drilling in ANWAR as well as for cuts for Medicare, etc. - lovely, lovely people.) They both receive a lot of money from the oil and gas industry which is disturbing because the issue of drilling off of our coast pops up every couple of years or so. They both toe the */Cheney line when it comes to Iraq.

I don't know why Burr wanted to go to the Senate. He was in the House before so maybe he just wanted a bigger office like you said. He's very vanilla, so I guess he was an attractive candidate for the Repukes to run in '04 - he may be bad, but Jesse Helms he ain't. I guess I should be thankful!

I agree about the ranking of Senators by the way. They should rank them by height. That would be a much better system!

7. Hey Tay!
Isn't Burr the one who was supposed to introduce Al Gore yesterday? If so, he was a "no show" there too!! Is this the same guy, or am I mistaken?????????? DC
