CHALLENGING BUSH
Storied Past, Golden Résumé, but Mixed Reviews for Kerry
By TODD S. PURDUM

Published: November 30, 2003

In 1971, when most of his rivals for the presidency were in college, in graduate school or just beginning ambitious but still anonymous careers, John Forbes Kerry was already a decorated combat veteran of two tours in Vietnam and such a prominent leader of the antiwar movement that "60 Minutes" profiled him and the correspondent Morley Safer asked, "Do you want to be president?"

1. Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed reading it.
It's interesting that he is presented as struggling and look how he ultimately came out ahead. Again, it appears that you can never count Kerry out.

Since facts, don't matter much to some people, this is my new line (in Kerry's words) for all the elitist BS :

"Where you come from and where I come from are absolutely irrelevant; it's where we're going together that counts."

3. I love that line.
Kerry amazes me. That could and should be his campaign slogan for '08.
If he's running, that is....
