In 2005, as our nation remained at war and our world was battered by earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes, we were reminded both of life's fragility and the real strength of our nation. Unprecedented suffering was matched by the sacrifice and generosity of countless Americans who rushed to do their part. Across the country and around the world, Americans have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need, reminding us again that what was written one hundred years ago is still true: America is great because Americans are good.
As we gather with our families, we should all take a moment to honor those who have given of themselves so others could heal, and to remember that in this year when natural disaster left so many without family members to celebrate with, or homes to celebrate in, there is so much giving left to be done -- and so much to be done to comfort those Americans who this holiday season pray for loved ones serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As Teresa and I look forward to Christmas with our family, we wish all the best for you, and thank you for your unwavering commitment to America. We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season, and continued blessings in the New Year.
Sincerely,
John Kerry
This holiday season, please remember service members everywhere who are separated from their families both in the United States and overseas.
Support the USO’s efforts to bring them a little closer to home.
