2. That looks like
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 04:26 PM by rox63
around the time he ran his ill-fated 1972 Congressional campaign. It might even be a photo done for his campaign literature. I believe those mills in the background are in and around downtown Lowell. TayTay, can you chime in on that here? I place the location near the Bridge Street bridge, or possibly on the roof of one of the mill buildings nearby, with the church in the background being the big cathedral-like one on upper Merrimack St. Used to be St John the Baptist, changed to a Spanish name a while back, and closed down in the most recent spate of church closings. There weren't a lot of tall buildings in the way back then. You can't see that church from that angle anymore, because there are a couple of high-rise apartment buildings in the way.

Or I could be totally wrong.

P.S. I realize that the only person here who is likely to have any clue what I'm going on about is TayTay. And that is terribly rude of me. My apologies to all of you. But I was feeling out-geeked, and I had to make up for it.

3. No, it totally looks
like Lowell to me.

And he is adorable in that picture, but then I am a complete sucker for 1970's John. :loveya:

10. And he's SMILING about it? Seems like a very strange tradition.
Well, I guess it could be worse: ever see "A Man Called Horse?"

16. Us preppy folks are okay
We aren't really that different from everyone else else :P (Although I must admit that I don't really come close to the preppyness exuded by Kerry and some of his ilk.)

17. I know.
I was mostly kidding. I'm a little preppy myself, but not in the athletic, throwing-people-into-ponds-and-fountains-while-they're-in-their-morning-coats sense.

14. That was at his wedding to Julia, I believe
That's why he's smiling. At least I hope he was happy on his wedding day, even if the marriage didn't go as planned.

12. Oh, that's definitely Lowell.

The long low building and the dirt lot in front could now be Boarding House Park? (I can't see the buildings to the side of it. At this point in time, Lowell was not as pretty as it is now and those old gorgeous brick buildings were covered with years of soot and grime.) Lowell has come so far. I love walking around that city. There really is a lot of gorgeous architecture. The City Hall and Library are just so lovely. That art of building with granite is not employed like this anymore and those structures always just astound me. (Wow!)

Paul Tsongas did so much for Lowell. He was a great Cong. & a great Senator. I know a lot of people in this area who still miss him.

You could be right. Now, the next time I am in Lowell, I'll be looking for the Church spire to get some bearings.

EDIT: That can't be right. I think Rox, you are right. If he was across the street from the Mill (now the Mill Apartments) then he would have been on the roof of the Lowell High School. (And those smoke stacks are long gone, as well.) I will have to look next time I am in Lowell. I do know that it doesn't look like that anymore. (And my Lord, look at all that hair!)

I couldn't find my favorite one with Hillary Clinton, Charlie Rangel, and J.K., but here's a more solemn one:
