Kerry says he still wants to be president
Just posting this here for people who don't want to go to LBN.

Kerry says he still wants to be president
WASHINGTON (AP) November 17,2005
Senator John Kerry says losing last year's election hasn't soured him on wanting to be president.
Asked if he wanted to run again in 2008, Kerry says it's too early to say. But he added: (quote) "Would I like to be president? Yes, obviously."

Kerry made the comments today on C-N-N.
The senator says he won't base his future presidential ambitions on whether other Democrats like Hillary Clinton join the race. During the interview, Kerry also said his vote authorizing President Bush to use military force was a mistake.
He says he'd change his vote knowing what he does today.

1. wouldn't this be considered "news" if he had said the opposite
hopefully they spend more time reporting on what he said about Iraq.

2. I agree
Talking about 2008 only plays into the hands of the GOP.

3. Why do you think Wolf asked the question.
It was 30 secs at the end of the interview. AP decides it is the main subject.

6. they ask everyone that question
the problem is when so called reporters make it into some big news and don't give issues that matter such as Iraq which is what he most talked about the attention is deserves.

4. That was not the whole quote
KERRY: It is honestly too early to tell. … Would I like to be president? Yes, obviously. I ran for the job. I think I would have made a good president for America, a strong president. I would have had us in a very different place than we are today.

8. If they had to go with the fluff, they should have used the whole
quote. It sounded so honest and upfront.

7. That's just bad journalism
I wrote them. That piece of supposed gossip is more important than a plan to get out of Iraq?? Good lord.

9. This struck me as an interviewers Duh moment.
I mean come on. Is Kerry supposed to say, "no I spent 2 1/2 years of my life running for an office that I don't want anymore. I'm now going to retire to the Cape and become a cranberry farmer. It's less stressful. "

Wolf Blitzer is a walking parody of himself. Does he ever listen to his own questions? Honestly, he is a terrible interviewer. Of course Kerry would like to be President. Duh! The question is if he wants to go through that again and Kerry clearly said he hasn't decided yet. That's what he should say, as it is too early and the mid-terms next year are too important.

I did cringe a teensy bit at the Edwards response. It was true, but indelicate. (But isn't that what everyone wants: a less cautious Kerry? I thought DU wanted Kerry to go out get some brass knuckles and begin breaking beer bottles and smashing furniture up. Sort of a King Kong version of what a pol should do. Highly amusing, but, if I remember correctly, ineffective. Didn't King Kong get shot down? Honestly, this place has functional bi-polar disorder.)

10. I didn't actually have any reaction to the Edwards response
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 10:28 AM by karynnj
Did I miss something? I thought all he said was that he had done the same thing a few weeks earlier. Clearly not an attack on Edwards, but more a need to set the record straight. Many of us here have been frustrated to hear cable person after cable person say after Kerry said it, that he hadn't.

I now think maybe they weren't lying, but chose to ignore a speech labeled as a major Iraq policy speech by the last Democratic nominee. Kerry had to say something rather than let a misconception remain. The bigger misconception is that he ever supported the war. I was surprised when he listed all the things he did to get information - including going to the UK. He probably never thought 2 respectable governments would perpetrate the fraud they did.

11. I agree with you on Edwards, and I was happy that he mentioned
all of his search for information too.
