I choose to be inspired! ( a mini-rant)
Yesterday I spent some time in the other forums, and you know how it goes: "Kerry betrayed us!" "Kerry is a loser!" whine whine whine.
No, they don't make me cry, because I know better. I know they are ignorant and wrong. The ignorance makes me a bit sad and discouraged, though.

But here is my point: John Kerry, if he did nothing more for the rest of his days, has already done plenty! He owes us nothing--we Kerrycrats know all he's done in service of this country, and the whole world, all of his life--I don't need to list it here. He's in the history books already; he's lived a life to be proud of!

And even though he didn't attain the presidency (this time), we know he's going to keep on working. But even that isn't the main thing that interests me. What I expect him to do in the future isn't what it's all about with me. It's not about what he has done or will do specifically for people like me. It is the inspiring example he sets for all of us.

This is what true leaders do--they lead by setting an example, and inspiring their followers. He's not the only one, but he is definitely a natural leader--he has high ideals and firmly-set values that he relies on as his moral compass. He has shown us this year what is important, what ideals we can and should strive for. He instills in us an optimistic hope for a future America and the world that is better. We catch that optimism and are inspired. We see how he never gives up on what is important to him, and want to be that way too.

Some people want to sit back and wait for, and even demand that others fix everything for them! They complain loudly when the leader doesn't do everything they want, the way they want or expect. Don't they see that the leader is a leader because he actually knows more than they do? That maybe his judgement is better? That he is far more able to decide the best course of action? That's why we have true leaders in the first place--because they know things we don't, and have abilities superior to ours! (this doesn't apply to all people in authoriy--a leader is someone you have chosen to follow)

I think it was Ghandi who said you have to "become the world you want" --each one of us has to live so that we do our little part to make the world the way we believe it should be. John Kerry is one who does this--all the time, in any way he can. He never gives up. So I try to use that example and look at my own life and think, yes, I can do better. I can be more unselfish, patient, kind, useful to others. I can be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. I can look beyond my own immediate interests, and become one small part of what is right about the world. I think of John Kerry as a role model, and I want to be a member of his "team" and do my part, however small, in helping make this world better for everyone.

I choose to be inspired.

1. Amen, ginny!
I feel the same way. Left or right, there seem to be an inordinate number of lazyass citizens who choose to play armchair quarterback - a very safe game.

This year I put myself on the line more than I ever had. * hatred was part of the equation, I admit, but admiration and love for Kerry(:loveya:) was a much larger part. He makes me want to put myself on the line for what I believe in. What greater good can a leader possibly do?

2. Amen Sister Amen!
I'm glad to see more people speaking up lately I know I sure have ranted on and on. It makes you feel better to get how you truly feel about the issue off your chest. I sometimes have some long and can be nasty rants depending on what I'm ranting about and what kind of mood I'm in. I hope others don't get tired of all the ranting I do at times but as I said there are times you feel you just have to say what's on your mind and get it off your chest. I'm so sick of all the slandering and bashing of Kerry and at times I get so pissed it just has to come out or I'm going to explode with all the anger. This man don't owe anyone in this country any damn thing but we do owe him the respect that he so greatly deserves for all he has done and for all of us and this great country we all live in! John Kerry should be a role model and inspiration to all not a damn target to take your own problems and anger out on that my friends is why we have illiterate dumbasses like chimp around for!

3. LOL--I love your rants!
And you got it right: it's us who owe HIM, not the other way 'round! Bigtime. And yeah, you'd think there was enough to vent at the BFEE about! We should say, hey guys, Kerry is on OUR side, remember??

But they don't get it. They are just "infants" expecting their "daddy" politicians to save the day by waving their magic wands. I guess they are in the non-reality based community along with Smirkyboy and his buddys.

6. LOL Thanks
I get worried about ranting the way I do sometimes. I'm always get worried it will get on people's nerves or offend someone here and I don't want to do that. But it does help to get it off your chest. The main one I don't like to get started on that bitch that is married to the bald head ugly dick that calls himself a VP! OMG LOL! But I will always stand up and be heard and fight like hell for Kerry no matter who it pisses off.

5. Amen, ginny
He inspires me to be my best. He rekindled in me a patriotism that I had forgotten amidst the rampant abuses of the Bush Administration, and he reminded me what the values of this counry truly are.

He's a real American hero who, even if he had never run for office at all, has done more than most people to serve his country. He's a decorated war hero, helped end a disastrous war, helped uncover not one but two massive scandals, and has been a consistent advocate for liberalism and for the people of America all his life. He has done more than most people could ever dream of doing for America, and the world.

9. Thanks, this was great!
In all seriousness, I really thought I saw some wonderful changes in Kerry as the campaign went on. I know that John Kerry is a very smart man and that he has a great voting record. I could coldly recite it for you. I had a million rational reasons for voting for this man back in 2003.

My reaction to Kerry changed as the campaign wore on. I saw a lot of the conditioning that 20 years in the Senate can do to a person melt away a bit and a little more of the inner person emerge. We in MA know this guy, but we kind of knew him as that guy on the news. Wicked smart, tough guy, great record, been there done that, okay, move on. But I got reacquainted with the guy who courageously served his country. (My gawd, Vietnam was a huge screw-up. His service was honorable, but at a great cost. I wonder how much of that is still in there.) We saw the old footage of the testimony in the Senate from the VVAW days and remembered the courage it took to stand up to Nixon and his thugs. (Oh yeah, I forgot how much Nixon hated Kerry. How much he tried to destroy him utterly. How awful and nasty and personal that Lowell Congressional race was.)

We got to see the family man, who survived that horrible divorce (and what did that cost him? He was always going to run, it was always speculated in the papers. But his first wife wasn't cut out for that life. So sad. So happy his daughters turned out so well. I don't remember seeing them that much over the years.) Oh geez, there's the guy that entered the Senate with guns blazing, ready to take on the Reaganites. Those first few months were very rocky, but this guy is tough. Why doesn't the press like him? What's up with that? They like all these 'lovable rascals' who cheat the taxpayers, why don't they like this guy?

Oh yeah, Kerry did some great investigations. He's a great guy. I don't have to pay that much attention, but I trust him, he'll do a good job. Funny, the Presidential race allowed me to take another deep look and I was moved. Really and truly. So many times in his life that he has faced adversity and sorrow. So many triumphs. I really musn't take people for granted. I am a fool.

I was so proud of Kerry in the debates. I knew he would do well, as I have seen him debate before. But I never dreamed that those debates would be so damn satisfying. To stand next to that Liar and just utterly destroy him. I was so proud. I wish the debates had been two weeks later, Kerry would have had more momentum.

I think I have been fortunate to have had a good and decent man rep me in Congress. And I should pay more attention. This is what renews faith in public life. Even though the outcome was disappointing, the candidate was awesome. And I deeply wish him well.

11. People from Massachusetts
Don't realize just how damn lucky they are to have this man represent them and so many took it for granted. I hope after this presidential campaign that people in Massachusetts have woke up and smelled the the fine fresh coffee once again. As well as I hope that many Americans all across this country have finally woke up. It may be to late for 2004 but let me say my friends 2008 will be here before you know it. This fight is far from over in fact this fight has truly just begun. We must all remember that no matter how hard fight, no matter how many bumps in the road we hit, and no matter how high that mountain is to climb with our leader John Kerry leading and guiding us all the way we will win this fight, we will get pass the bumps in the road, and most importantly we will make to the top of that mountain with our heads held high, with the greatest respect and admiration for one another, and we will prevail and celebrate like we the true champions we and our leader are! So we need not never forget...

"FOR AMERICA, THE HOPE IS THERE! THE SUN IS RISING! OUR BEST DAYS ARE YET TO COME!!"

13. you are very astute!
I also noticed the change in Kerry--how he opened up more and more as the summer wore on. Stopped being so calculated, hiding emotions--yeah that's what the Senate will do to you, I guess. In the Senate it's good not to show how you feel, but not on the stump.
He's said that the campaign changed him, gave him an awareness of all of us out here and what we go through. So many people told him so many stories of their lives and problems. So now more than ever he's got a heart for the people.

14. Thank You, I Try
Sometimes I get carried away but I do my best to get my point across on how I truly feel about the issues. And I must say from what I know from talking to different people who have lived in Massachusetts for years including those here I think alot of them just always took Kerry for granted. I don't think they realized just how lucky they are to have him represent them in Congress. I hope that all has changed now and they appreciate and respect him more. I also hope that Americans all across this country have come to realize that Kerry truly is the real deal. There is nothing phony about this man at all. Kerry is a man of his word that is out there working in the best interest of America and the American people. If there is one thing for sure Kerry will never stop fighting for what he believes in and he will always make decisions based on what he knows is the truth, what is right, and what is in the best interest of this country and all the people in it. And people can be assured that this is a man that pours his heart and soul in all the decisions he makes and everything he sets out to do.

17. How many are like you, do you think
Living in Mass., knowing the man, but meeting him again in this race?
The Globe seems to indicate that the Bay Staters learned to love the man from watching him run.

"(My gawd, Vietnam was a huge screw-up. His service was honorable, but at a great cost. I wonder how much of that is still in there.)"

I do know that he still has nightmares, the same ones described from when he was younger: "Down, down, get down!" Teresa sounds like she could use a combat helmet some nights.

He does have a way of growing on you, doesn't he. :D
