Should Kerry do The Daily Show again?
Chuck Schumer was on tonight talking mainly about the Roberts' vote, and he was pretty funny. Who here thinks John should pay TDS another visit? I do (mainly I'll admit because I want to see him on TV) but also because I think he might be more relaxed and himself now that he's not in the pressure cooker situation of the campaign. (Of course I thought he did just fine last year when he was on.) What do you guys think?

3. Me too!
Also at the end of the show tonight I will swear I heard Stewart mention that John Edwards was going to be on the next show. (If true, I'll try to look at this in a positive way even though I have to wonder how he got the idea to appear.)

4. I missed hearing who was going to be on the next show

(Monday I guess it would be), but the last time I saw John Edwards on there he announced his candidacy. It was like the day before he officially made the announcement, but he said it first on TDS. Does anyone else remember that?

7. Edwards needs some TV time to stay in the public eye
He is no more a Senator and he will be quickly forgotten if he does not do something from time to time.

As much as I think Kerry should go on TV, I think he should focus on going on the Sunday Shows or 60 Minutes, where there is more time to say what you want to say, or on AAR or Schultz.

I remember Edwards on the Daily Show when he announced and it was very underwhelming (a nice guy for sure, but the show did not lend itself to the occasion). McCain is also quite often in the late Shows and he really looks stupid half of the time.

6. He did say
John Edwards is going to be on next week.

Don't forget, the first place John Edwards announced he was running for president was on the Daily Show. (Jon Stewart told him it didn't count.)

8. I read Jon Stewart's interview w/ Oprah (I had an old magazine)
And actually, after he criticized Kerry for his performance on his show he said: He was tired and in a certain mood -- just like I was on Crossfire. I think I'm not sore with Jon about this anymore. He actually got the fact that Kerry was just not on top of his game that night, and knew he was capable of more. Seems to me that if he wants to run for president again, sleep will HAVE to be a top priority for him. It makes a big difference.

And, yes, I would love to see him on The Daily Show. Jon, of course, is brutally witty, so it's risky, but I think if JK had a good day, he could outdo Jon. Really.

9. In fact, I though that Kerry was great that night.
(at least as good as most other pols going on the show).

11. I thought he was very likable
I think actually that Kerry and Steward had different aims that day. Kerry, I think, acheived what he wanted - he came across as a nice guy, but serious. Steward would obviously have liked Kerry to play more with what he threw at him, but that would have carried a risk of looking stupid with almost no real upside benefit.

Looking stupid at that point, would have really really hurt; having a great grin and seeming to be a nice, but somewhat quiet and serious man is (for Kerry) a net plus. The latitude for silliness is higher in the middle of a comedy show, than on CNN, MSNBC ets where anything that made him look foolish.

I think while he is doing this set of very serious speeches setting an alternative agenda and while so many really bad things are happening, he should not even think of going on that type of show. It could diminsh the important things he is doing and there's plenty of time left.

10. Brutally witty is a good way to put it!
He can be merciless. But he tends to reserve that approach for the truly egregious. He could have been harder on Kerry, but there are a lot of pols on that he treats gently. I think Kerry could hold his own - especially if he goes on at a time when the stakes aren't quite so stratospheric as they were last time.

(how are you doing?)

13. When Kerry was on Letterman
He was hysterically funny, and yet, Dave gave him time to
go into his serious rant.

It was great!

A good host can bring out both sides of Kerry.
