Mike Hersh gets it right on Kerry's IWR vote
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 03:11 PM by fedupinBushcountry
Excellent write up, and please respond to Ambrose challenge. What's New on Downing Street?
Submitted by davidswanson on Mon, 2005-06-20 15:06.

By Mike Hersh, Jun 20, 2005

Jay Ambrose - writing in the DC Examiner - opines about the Downing Street Minutes, but he ignores the facts, leaving us to correct the distortions, out-of-context quotes, and misrepresentations. Ambrose wants to make this about John Kerry rather than Bush and those responsible for the disaster in Iraq. He contends it was "silly ... for people to interpret the first memo - which contained meeting minutes - the way they did" by which he meant us, the "Bush-bashing bloggers and, later, some way-out congressional Democrats" who know "the leaked minutes proved Bush lied about the existence of weapons of mass destruction and that he had decided on war long before he said he had."

1. Hersh is great in disputing this
The Ambrose quote is really obnoxious in the degree it's taken out of context. As far as exonerating Bush, it's irrelevant. I never got away with "But (friend's name) did it too" nor did my kids -

In Bush's case it's worse, he had the power, Kerry didn't. You know they're i trouble when their excuses are similar to those that didn't work for 8 year olds.

2. Downing Street activists sites respect Kerry where DUs a cauldron of hate
and ignorance when it comes to Kerry.

I really believe the current hate was fostered by GOP operatives working under the guise of lefties and they knew they were influencing new political activists unaware of Kerry's actual record.. They infiltrated other Dem campaigns in the primaries to work against him, just as they did plant operatives in the VVAW movemnet to discredit Kerry. They never let up.

7. Thanks for sharing Mike Hersh's article . . .
That's what I needed --- a pick-me-up. He is absolutely right on! He nailed it! This is exactly the way that Kerry and the other Senators can approach the DSMinutes/memos. Kerry's record is blameless.

9. I'm glad that the After DS folks defended Kerry
with the truth. This is *'s war, not John Kerry's. All Dems should be shouting that from every platform, this is not the Democrats war.

Maybe it's just me, but I am also apprehensive about commenting on the DSM and the idea that the US might have rushed to war. Another friggin war in which random civilians were killed and America's young were sent home in body bags. I can't imagine what the cost is to people like Kerry or even Hagel, Harkin and the other combat vets to see this happen again and to see more chickenhawks beating war drums for a war that didn't have to be fought. They know the cost of these actions better than I hope I ever have to and I bet it just sickens them to the very bone.

I know that this must be exposed and that the lies must be brought out and the nation must be made aware of what was done in it's name and paid for with its money, but I also find it nearly unbearably depressing. Once again, those who pimped for war will not be the ones who have the endless pain of it. It's just so awful.

And on that happy note.....
