3. I hope you're happy
I voted for MA...and I live in Illinois!

(I explained my reasons over there. Without resorting to any LLL-type insinuations....actually my guilty non-secret is I wouldn't kick Obama OR Durbin out of bed for eating crackers either, so I suppose that's almost even anyway.)

4. Dude I know
We totally have second-best, hands down. I mean, MA only wins because of the delicious combination of Kerry and Kennedy. Durbin and Obama RULE.

I think they're cuties too :loveya:

11. they are some of my favorite Senate delegations
including the New Jersey ones, especially Lautenberg.

i heard that Kerry wanted Durbin to be Senate leader and if he had become President he might have had the influence to get support for Durbin over Reid even though Reid was next in line to Daschle.

5. Really? Could someone explain this to the Globe please?
I feel so schizophrenic about this. I come here and you guys are all so nice. (And btw, I love IL's Sens. I am beginning to warm up to Sen. Obama and I just adore Sen. Sweetie (Durbin.) I just adore him. He is so smart and capable and has such a can-do attitude. I would keep Sen. Sweetie in a heart-beat.)

But then I read local stuff and Sen. Kerry is always getting bashed by the Globe. (Happened again today. Vennocchi. I don't want to post it.) It's enough to give a person whiplash. MA far and away beats the other states. (What no MI or MD? Love those folks. That doesn't make any sense.) MA's local newspapers should buy a freaking clue.

Sigh! There are days when I just hate the Globe. "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency, a great soul has simply nothing to do."--Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 -1882)

6. I have a Bible verse relevant to this:
Matt. 13:57
"...A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house."

Seemed appropriate here. But I know that the people there love him, by and large, right? Maybe the Globe is being like the parent who will never show satisfaction with what their kid accomplishes, fearing that if they let up the pressure at all, the kid will backslide.

By the way, I too voted for MA, and would have voted for IL as my second choice! Durbin is a sweetie, and Obama very articulate (another John Kerry-in-training, if you ask me). As for WI, Feingold is pretty good (although I don't necessarily subscribe to his pessimism on the compromise), but Kohl doesn't seem to do much of anything. Herb Kohl is from a very wealthy local family; I honestly don't know much else about him.

7. Vennochi once slammed Kerry
Edited on Tue May-24-05 10:57 AM by TayTay
(back in '96 or so, I carry grudges, BTW) by saying that people in the low-income towns of Holyoke and Lawrence don't like him because he is too 'aloof.' Someone pointed out to her that he carried both towns by 55%-40-something. (Plus indy candidates.) I think they like him just fine.

I shouldn't let her get to me, but she does. It's the outright lies that bother me.

Yes, MA likes him. (And finds him slightly odd as well. We find all really intelligent people slightly odd. All great New Englanders are slightly odd. It's just a thing.)

EDIT: No misunderstanding here. Slightly, she said slightly odd. Think of that pic of JK on his bike riding to work in half a suit and half shorts. Slightly, interestingly odd. We like that.

9. I loved that pic too!
I was a little hesitant to post that but then I rmemebered that this is a group of friends, so I went and did it. That is a completely endearing picture. Slightly odd and totally wonderful.

I second your Vennochi comment. She is a sad excuse for an objective columnist.

Screw her: Here is my Alice poem that says how I feel. (BTW, the answers to everything in the world are contained in Alice or Through the Looking Glass, don't you know.)

These were the verses the White Rabbit read: -

'They told me you had been to her,
And mentioned me to him:
She gave me a good character,
But said I could not swim.

He sent them word I had not gone
(We know it to be true):
If she should push the matter on,
What would become of you?

I gave her one, they gave him two,
You gave us three or more;
They all returned from him to you,
Though they were mine before.

If I or she should chance to be
Involved in this affair,
He trusts to you to set them free,
Exactly as we were.

My notion was that you had been
(Before she had this fit)
An obstacle that came between
Him, and ourselves, and it.

Don't let him know she liked them best,
For this must ever be
A secret, kept from all the rest,
Between yourself and me.'

There. Now it couldn't be clearer, right?

12. Oh thats tough
Here are my faves though
Massachuetts, Kerry and Kennedy, you cant go wrong there
Illinois, Obama and Durbin, Durbin now has a partner in Illinois in Obama.
New Jersey- Lautenburg and Corzine, this one may end with Corzine seeking the governorship but Robert Mendenez is the likely replacement and hes good
Maryland- Muiliski and Sarbanes, a great team of two dems who are very underrated by political observers, however I predict by 2010, both will be retired since Sarbanes is going but Maryland has a lot of great democrats eager to become senator.
Those are my four faves honestly.
