I don't need this crap today
I'm in the middle of finals week, I have a HUGE final tomorrow that will determine my grade for that class, and 4 more after that. I come to DU to take a break, only to be inundated by immature Kerry haters. God, why do I bother?

There needs to be a suicide smiley, holding a gun to its head and blowing out its brains. I need one of those right now.

We have lots of pro-Kerry stuff. Unfortunately today's post will still expose you to the nonsense being said about Kerry.

3. you need to stay in here or at least until the finals are over
i know how the negative stuff can get to you even though it's pretty insignificant compared to what goes on in the "real world". i know i let it get to me through out the primary and the GE.

this is one of the reasons i come here mostly.

Good place to put those feelings!!

When it comes down to it, I'm really not sure he's all that smart. He has a habit, anyway, of making ridiculous statements that have no basis except for his own feelings.

Edited to add: Great post!!! I really enjoy a good Kos slam. ;-)

I don't think he's smart at all. I have NO IDEA why so many people take him so seriously. His insight is mediocre at best and downright asinine and ludicrous at worst.

Then again, I have no idea why so many people take Dubya seriously, either. Again: :banghead:

But, I'm glad you liked my post. It was certainly cathartic.

16. Kos is disgruntled...
He lost all credibility with me last year when he had something posted about how Kerry was allegedly using up his campaign war chest to defeat Dean for DNC. I'd consider it to be little more than flamebait, something meant to stir up hate and discord among Dems. No basis other than his own speculation for the bit about the money, which incidentally wasn't even CLOSE to true (I mean what's Kerry have, even now? How many millions? :eyes:). And even if Kerry didn't support Dean for chair, well, considering the fact that Dean seemed to have a personal problem with him that went back to the primaries, who can blame him? (If I intended to run for office in the future, or was even halfway considering it, I wouldn't want someone as party chair who had distorted my record.) There's always another side.

But Kos is so one-sided it's amazing he has the following that he does.

BTW:  to WEL for the blog entry.

that I just checked over at Kos. The first Kerry thread on the front page now has 354 comments. The second has 810.

He's got them talking, and he's got their passions up. Somehow, I don't think Kerry would be at all displeased by this...

Edited to add, look what I found, Fire: http://www.bopnews.com/archives/003371.html#3371

Listen up: The Daily Kos may be the rising blog among the underdog Democrats in the 2004 campaign--the Instapundit on the left side of the political blogosphere. But it is more than a forum of partisan comments and links. "The Daily Kos is a budding movement," says the man behind the curtain: Markos Moulitsas Zuniga. He is raising money on the blog for the Democratic party--about $20,000 so far. And he rejoices in the interest that the blog and its treasury have provoked from party chairman Terry McAuliffe. He sounds more like a pol than a pundit. To my ear, he wants to be a player even more than his counterpart Glenn Reynolds.

21. Thanks for the counts.
I think your right, Kerry is dominating Kos and a lot of DU. I would wish it all to be very Kerry positive, but at least his name is circulating. He is staying relevant and news worthy. I don't think Kos was out to give Senator Kerry more exposure, but that is just what has happened.
Oh, and on Kos, your little article is very appropriate. Someone posted in General discussion that Kos was entitled to and obligated to expose any candidate that did not meet with Kos's approval. (all bow to the mighty Kos!)

I can't stand that place - I get enough kerry hate here on DU.

ps - I thought your post on Skinner's thread was really good. You said pretty much what I would have...

:toast:

I've been feeling a lot of ... despair? lately over some of the anti - Kerry hate stuff. Somedays you just can't let it go - you've got to fight back.

I do think DU's rules need to be enforced more stictly. There is so much garbage out there that could never be reasonably defined as "constructive" criticism. Honestly, another thing I think should be against the rules is excessive tinfoilhattism. If I hear SKULL N BONEZ one more time...

And there are several posters I can think of off the top of my head who are never productive, polite members of DU, and I see no reason why they shouldn't be banned.

10. Don't go in there!!
Hang out in here. We're like Cheers. Everyone knows your name.

You think this is bad, try Dailykos. I've never seen plain old trolls on political sites like this before. Immature idiots who are more interested in getting off what they consider a funny zinger than in contributing to the debate. I had one hater who got troll rated, only to repost, saying we'd deleted him because he didn't spout the liberal party line. I said no, it was because he was an immature jackass.

Oh, and by the way, did you know I'm a paid shill for Kerry. How close to that is a DLC operative? :eyes:

Seriously. I spend all my free time defending him anyway. I wish his PAC would hire me so I didn't have to mess with this "college" baloney.

Speaking of DailyKos, if you wanna read an awesome slam by me, go here.

12. Take care of yourself
realize that the most important thing you are doing this week is studying for the exams. Listen to your favorite music, eat whatever comfort foods you like (and can get on campus). Print out your favorite JK smiling picture, remembering that he was able to smile and work through worse attacks last year.

The haters are sometimes writing only to see if they can get a reaction. So many of them simply want Kerry to go away because after all he didn't live up to all their expectations and they know that their favorite would have done so much better. (Remember THIS is the level of many of those posters: Why didn't Kerry just ignore a debate question, turn to Bush, and in his very loudest, probably quite scary voice yell, "YOU ARE A LIAR",at least 16 times, preferrably becoming quite red in the face and showing less maturity than he demonstrated since a parent convinced him at maybe age 2 that temper tantrums don't work)

Kerry really is positioned right where he wants to be on this issue. I grew up one state over from you, and I think he's right on the political level too. I think pushing gay marriage anywhere can hurt the acceptability of civil unions. If he was really 100% in sync with the very LW people, he would have the same liklihood of winning as their favorite, Dennis Kuchinich. Remember next week your exams will be over, you will be relieved because you did brilliantly on them and the haters will still be there waiting for a thread, good or bad to jump on.

Good luck on your finals.

14. Thank you
I think you're right about his political position on this issue. It really can't hurt him. This will play well in the moderate-conservative rural Midwest where I'm from. People here are okay with civil unions, but they balk at "marriage." They think that's just for a man and a woman. My father is one of those people. I guess he's an evil bigot too, according to the lefty loonies. Eh, whatever. He'd also support Kerry or Edwards over someone who panders to said loonies.

Gay marriage is an idea whose time has not yet come for most of America, and shoving it down the electorate's throat WILL backfire, and cause more harm for gay rights in the long run. Hell, it already has. Look at all the anti-gay legislation that has come from the gay-marraige backlash.

Sigh. This statistics exam is going to kick my ass, largely because I hatehatehate all forms of math. So I had better go study.

Thanks again everyone!

1984, newly elected Senator. 40 years old. And effectively single. Oooooh, and that little hair out of place that needs to be pushed back. Oooh, ahm, I don't feel so wonky anymore.

22. well, I didn't notice this crap until now
Man, when Kerry said what he said about gay marriage, I knew it would be ugly. It's fine though. He's just saying what he's been saying for a long time(even if I disagree). Basically, people have relished the chance to bash him. Anything he says is blown out of proportion. People need to get over themselves.
