Kerry to Endorse Antonio Villaraigosa in L.A. on Saturday
John Kerry to Endorse Antonio Villaraigosa on Saturday
27 April 2005

John Kerry just sent out an email to his L.A. area supporters announcing his endorsement of Antonio Villaraigosa on Saturday. The event will take place at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys.

Here’s a quip from Kerry’s email about his endorsement of Antonio Villaraigosa:

Rallying around a stand-up guy like Antonio Villaraigosa is exactly the kind of thing you and I and other members of our johnkerry.com community should be doing. He keeps his promises, works hard, and gets things done. He's a leader with integrity.

Antonio and I share a set of core convictions that I know you share as well. We believe in empowering citizens to make the most out of their own lives by ensuring access to quality, affordable health care, especially for our children; creating good jobs; and improving our public schools. Antonio is deeply committed to these goals. He has led efforts to modernize California's public schools and provide millions of children access to health care. I believe Antonio brings important leadership skills and a fresh vision to the challenges of major city governance. He always puts kids first and will put the families of Los Angeles first as mayor.

1. Remember: book reports on JK events are mandatory
We will be waiting for the 'What I did at the Rally' report here with baited breath. (Well, I do have mints, but still.)

3. Thanks for letting us know!
I will tell my daughter. Probably she could go with her boyfriend. He is also interested in politics. I'm so jealous! It's a pity that I'm not in California right now.

4. Interesting
I'm glad to see John Kerry's endorsing other fellow Democratic candidates. Even all the way from Missouri, I've been fascinated with this L.A. Mayor's race. I even watched one of there debates, and was really impressed with Villaraigosa

Glad to hear John's endorsing him! :)

5. Anyone going who would like to meet up with my daughter?
I just talked to Julie on the phone and she would love to go and see Kerry. But her boyfriend can't come and she doesn't want to be alone. It would be her first political event and she doesn't know anyone there. Could she probably join those of you who are going? She would really appreciate it. She lives in the Silverlake area (near Glendale) and has someone who will drive her and pick her up after the event, if necessary. But if you could take her and pick her up somewhere in L.A., that would be great too. Please let me know and I will give you her email addy or phone number.

Thanks!
Tina

10. Yes, I did :-)
Thanks, TayTay, for asking. I got in contact with someone on the California DU group. She is going with her 14 year old daughter and Julie can meet up with them. Julie is 16 and that's really perfect! She is looking forward to meeting John Kerry (And I'm a jealous mom now LOL)

BTW, I told Julie to take some photos, and if it's possible she will do it and post them here.

8. Kerrygoddess, Thanks for letting us know . . .
I just RSVPd for 4 tickets to take my family. My 3 year old and 5 year old know John Kerry by sight. Hold up a picture or see him on C-Span and they say --- John Kerry! Even-though we're not in LA, we'll be coming from San Diego, got to see my President! :-)

I sure hope there is a moment afterwards to go up and shake his hand and get him to autograph my copies of "Tour of Duty" and the Boston Globe JK Biography. If I get the chance, I have 2 questions to ask him, I will let you know his response . . .

11. Villaraigosa sounds like a promising soul & I love it that Kerry --
-- is showing up to endorse him.

& while were at it, let's find a way to get Schwartzenegger out of the Governor's mansion.

If it's a Republican, I will root for his/her opponent.

16. Mittens is the occupier of the MA Govnah's office
And a Rethug bastard. MA Dems hate him with a great big purple passion because:

He campaigned against Kerry last year and helped to spread the big Rethug lies.

He is not really from around here. We have petitioned Utah for a redress of grievances and begged them to take the man back, but so far Utah has rebuffed our advances. (Apparently, they hate em too!)

He has decided, that based on his horrid governance of our fair Commonwealth, he is fit to run for President. He is trying to prove to the acrid, throbbing heart of national Rethuggery that he is a real fire-breathing Repuke by going around the country verbally trashing the state that he is the Governor of.

He has just reintroduced the Death Penalty bill, which we don't really want in MA.

He is against stem cell research.

I could go on and on. Trust me, he is not a guy you want as your Governor. Fortunately, the good people of MA have noticed that the Gov is going around trashing us and his popularity is in the toilet.

There is only one person from MA who can credibly run for Pres and this idiot is not the one. (I'm much, much more partial to the other tall guy from MA with good hair. He has a good heart and a fully functioning brain, unlike the Mittens doll.)

We hates him, precious, yes we do. We hates the Mittens, he is evil. hssssssssss

24. Ah, Mitt. Now I realize who you mean.
And we agree -- he's bad news.

Some of the recent polls show him losing support. I hope Massachusetts Dems turn out in force and vote in someone good and send Mittens packin'.

13. Ahnold is another Jesse Ventura
He has a tin ear for politics and for listening to people in his state. He has crewed up and is looking might vulnerable now. (Approval rating for Ahnold is hovering around 40%, right?)

15. I think that's a great comparison. Both of them "muscled" their way --
-- into office and Ventura was out after one term. I hope der Gropenfuhrer meets the same fate.

We've got Phil Angelides running, he's the State Treas. Good guy, too and another early Kerry endorser. http://www.angelides.com/

17. too early
but i imagine JK will be in California often since it's a fundraising spot. they can be expensive but he tends to spend time with people outside of the fundraiser at times if he sees there are people out there for him.

18. I have actually been impressed with this
Kerry is starting to do a lot of fundraisers. He has one in Minnesota on Sunday (I think) and one in Seattle. (And another appearance was announced for Louisiana, but I'm not sure where. Then again, why would they tell me?) I am very pleased that he is also scheduling free events at these locals as well. It is fair and democratic.

20. yeah, the free events are the ones that i really love
like that Texas one where he got thousands. i would have been impressed with a few hundred. but that was just incredible. especially since it was on an early saturday and many were students.

so he can help get other Democrats into office by raising money for them and he can hold those free events to get his message out. hopefully this can help get more Democrats elected so he can get things such as his kids health care bill passed.

22. Sunday fundraisers in San Fran
It's my understanding that he's got 2 or 3 big dollar fundraisers in San Fran on Sunday. Got that from the organizer.
