(I'm watching Kerry's opening statement now - and it sets the case very well. )

Kerry circulated his draft of legislation - but he says his commitment is to the consumers and he is willing to look at other plans. Enzi follows by saying that most negotiations go through with no problem - he does say that the high profile problem ones justify the hearings. He does speak of the huge diversity of means of getting the content - never more competitor. But, although he calls Kerry's work thoughtful, he is in favor of a more free market approach that considers the consumer interests (!), not the governments. Rockefeller speaks of the system that packages content is broken - entertainment is a race to the bottom and news is becoming entertainment - journalism that is ravenous for the newest rumor, but not interested in the truth. He also hits the need to buy so many channels. People tired of rates that go up continuously. (Rockefeller is making some fantastic points)

Ben Nelson repeated the best of Kerry's and Rockefeller's top points - commending the two of them. Lautenberg is 100% behind it and said he looks forward to working with Kerry - in a very nice little statement.
