As a lifelong New Englander, it's in my blood to support the Red Sox. I was extremely pissed when Curt Schilling actually campaigned for * after the World Series win last fall. But I've decided that I can admire the players as fine athletes, and as the home team, without endorsing the individual players' politics. So I am now at peace with this, and can be a Red Sox fan, a Kerry supporter, and a die-hard liberal.

BTW, the management of the Red Sox supported Kerry, and campaigned with him after the World Series win.

They owe Sen. Kerry for his aide when they bought the team. He helped smooth over some issues with ownership in the Boston area and some tax concerns. (The ownership of the Red Sox is very politically savvy when it comes to doing business in the Boston area. They are very, very fan friendly and have worked hard to get in good with the locals.)

;-) I read the article, and while it made me want to throw something at Johnny Damon, it was really only him quoted as being that pro-*. Trot Nixon is a capital C Christian, so it doesn't surprise me that he'd be excited. The others (Francona and Youklis - who, by the way, is Jewish) only said it was an honor. And it is an honor, in a generic kind of way. You notice they didn't say anything laudatory about *.

I have no idea what the other team members' politics are, and frankly the less I know the better. The management is SOLIDLY Democratic and pro-Kerry.
