Kerry, Clinton rally for Coakley today?
Does anyone know when it will be on or where online (if anywhere) it can be watched? I tried C-span around the time it was supposed to happen (2 pm ET I believe) but it was nowhere to be found. Apparently there wasn't a live feed?

Really want to see it though! :)

1. The rally in Boston is finsihed, The one in Worcester is at 4:30, with Clinton and McGovern
I don't think any of them is on line.

2. I looked too - with similarly no success
I am actually surprised that Clinton is there given his role on Haiti. I figured he would tape a message that could be played at the rallies. I hope that like with the Kerry town hall there will be a recording later.

It is amazing that the Boston media did not cover the rally given that Clinton was there.

3. I wish it were amazing, instead of NORMAL!!!!
Still, we should all keep our eyes on the NECN website...they're my guess, if *anyone* were to cover it.

5. I'm surprised too, though I suppose I shouldn't be..
given that airing such a rally probably wouldn't work into the media's current narrative about this race, which of course is doom and gloom for Dems. Their MO here is so obvious. If they were to show the Dem ahead in most of the polls, then there wouldn't be a story..

I hope they at least show it on C-span later!

in the North End (Boston's Italian neighborhood) which drew, http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/01/giuliani_leads.html">apparently, "A feisty crowd of several hundred."

I do think Coakley will win, but it will require work by Democrats in the next days.

"several hundred" < 1,500

Fail for them, win for us. :D

Now let's hope they all (that 1,500) get themselves and their friends, family, and neighbors to the polls on Tuesday! *crosses fingers*

We have to win this one....we can't not!

10. More here
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/15/bill-clinton-rallies-with-coakley/

Former President Bill Clinton, along with a veritable Who’s-who of Massachusetts Democrats rallied about 750 supporters at a Boston hotel Friday afternoon, urging them to get out the vote amid signs that the race for the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s seat is too close to call.“You have to decide if you want us to be a tomorrow country or a yesterday country,” Mr. Clinton said told the cheering crowd of about 750 in the ornate ballroom of the Copley Square Hotel in Boston. “Do you really want to put Massachusetts, which gave birth to accountable government in this country and stood up against the abuse of power, in the hands of power abusers?”

Sen. John F. Kerry reiterated that the election will have national implications, perhaps alluding to the fact that Ms. Coakley’s opponent, Scott Brown, has already vowed to become the 41st vote in the Senate against the Democrats’ health care overhaul were he to win.

“The voting here is going to determine the balance of power in America, and with it is going to determine the fate of what we started with Barack Obama a little over a year ago,” Mr. Kerry said.

And yes, Kerry is very funny. Does anyone here remember his appearance on Letterman from back during the '04 campaign? I still have the tape I made of it then (which I happened to come across again just recently, when I was back at my old house) . He was hilarious! :D

12. I like this paragraph from the NYTimes
The contrast tells it all. Sure, some of these people came for Clinton, but this shows the strength of the two operations.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/16/us/politics/16massachusetts.html

Mr. Brown appeared in Boston with former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York, and Ms. Coakley spoke at packed rallies in Boston and Worcester featuring former President Bill Clinton, Senator John F. Kerry and Gov. Deval Patrick.

14. I just crossed the state from east to west this morning
(weekly visit to inlaws' house while she is in AZ for the winter).

I dont see the excitement for Brown that I hear in the media. While there has been a clear uptick of signs in the Western part of the state for him, it is not very different from what I see on normal election years. Democrats are always very lethargic, so there are few Coakley signs, but there were few Kerry signs in 2008 (in fact, you could have thought O' Reilly would have won the primary, if signs meant something), so it is very difficult to judge whether there is really an interest in Brown or simply if there is an excitement level among some people that make them answer to polls while other people are too busy with their regular life to be bothered answering. I just cant judge anymore.

Longmeadow, who is typically Republican, has no more GOP signs than usual. In my own town in the east, there is no signs for anybody. The Suffolk poll seams to suggest there is some excitement in the south east (which would explain why they have so many people in the sample from there), but what does it mean when it comes to Tuesday?

I cant say anymore and I think that nobody can say.

15. That is interesting
You wonder if part of the excitement is that media somewhat fanned the small, but unusual early enthusiasm among the tea baggers. They have been pushing the idea that the tea baggers are a huge movement since summer. There is genuine anger and concern over jobs and the future. (In retrospect, more money should have been in the state money and immediate projects in the stimulus and Obama should have made what was done more prominent - the economy is beginning to revive, but people are not tying it to the stimulus.)

16. I dont think there is a lot of doubt that this is what is happening.
Edited on Sat Jan-16-10 11:20 AM by Mass
The first Rasmussen poll had Coakley at +9 before the campaign really started (I mean in early January)

Since then, we had both the media fawning on Scott Brown for obvious business reasons (see my comments on polls in another thread) and Democrats started to melt, once again more busy bashing their own candidates in order to get off the hook in case of a defeat than making her case. (see a certain post in GDP).

All this created a situation that is worse than it should be (even with Coakley's style and the economic difficulties). And teabaggers felt encouraged to answer polls.

I just hope this does not kill us at the end. As I said, I dont know anymore, but I am disgusted both by the media and the Democrats at a leadership and advisers level.

17. There has to be some way to hold the media accountable
They are actively engaged in influencing an election here! It's irresponsible at best,if they have no ulterior motive other than ratings, and illegal at worst, if they do.

I am sorry, but this screams both desperate and out of touch. If low-income women are the target, I am sure there are a lot of things in Brown record to contrast to Coakley record concerning that. But this ? I hope they polled that the charge was working on their target, because for me, it does not do it, far from it.

http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/senate-republicans/dem-mail-scott-brown-wants-hospitals-to-turn-away-all-rape-victims/

Why did they not go with the bank tax?

I hope I am wrong and it will not rebound, but I am less than impressed by the local party in this election (starting by her, but not only).

It is obvious what is going on here. And, I hope this energizes Democrats, and independants see through this push for Brown.

Shows Coakley (like JK, Clinton, Obama and others) has substance while Brown (like Palin, Bush, and the like) is all flash and hype. I would hope the people of MA would want more from their new Senator than just to "appear"..

21. Very nice new diary on DailyKos
Front page, recommended

She was great. She was warm. She spent the first ten minutes talking about our better natures and how we have to help our neighbors in Haiti. She talked about the stark differences between her positions with Scott Brown and took no cheap shots at him at all.

She was aggressive, passionate, inspiring and most of all, portrayed herself as someone unafraid to roll up her sleeves and do the hard work.

I appreciate that, and I believe it.

I might share a knuckle sandwich with the next clown who says "pinch your nose and vote for Coakley."

Eat that, Chuck Todd. You can keep the vapid and pretty ones who tug at your shallow heartstrings. We'll elect someone who actually gets stuff DONE... thereby, warming OUR hearts knowing we've got a Senator who will actually work for us.

25. Very nice diary
Here is a fantastic comment that really puts some of the attacks on Coakley in perspective, even though I do not think there is any reason to assume that she will be as good a politician or Senator as Kerry. (It is a wonderful comment on Kerry)
{div class = "excerpt"]
Reposting a comment I made last night

I don't know Coakley too well.

But I do know John Kerry, and a lot of the stuff that's being said about Coakley sounds like what has been said about Kerry in the past -- cold, flat, too conservative, lazy campaigner, etc...

And in the case of Kerry I think it's nonsense. I probably know Kerry better than any politician out there -- I know close friends of his, and he's the real deal. He's extremely caring, thoughtful, hard-working and yes, progressive.

So forgive me if I'm not so receptive to Coakley's critics.

What I do know about Coakley is that her votes in the senate could make a very real difference to people's lives.

According to a DUer in GD, this is what Kerry said at the rally yesterday.

See, things like this are precisely why I'm such a big supporter of John Kerry's--he gets it. :D

And I think the more Republicans are (by virtue of their own damn fault, of not only not much more widely rejecting loons like Limbaugh but often embracing or bowing down to him at most every turn) tied with Limbaugh and the ilk, the longer they will stay on the sidelines. Certainly having been endorsed by the likes of Limbaugh will not help Brown out much in a state like MA? If it does, that's a turn around to say the least...and in a far from good way. But I'm just not buying that that many voters in a state as seemingly blue as MA just woke up one day and decided to be more like tea partiers..at least not virtually overnight, like these outlier polls appear to suggest. I just don't buy that at all.
