OT, but can anybody explain to me why Democrats want to eat their youngs.
The GOP is currently pimping the chances of their guy, even if he is losing in every single poll but one. This is what it is about. Mobilizing their guys. Raising money. Campaigning.

However, though their candidate is better placed in the polls, Democrats are engaging in their favorite exercise: thinking about what would happen should their candidate lose. This is driving me crazy, because it is not helpful, and on the contrary demobilizing.

Should we not be campaigning for her, raising money, calling people, making clear who Scott Brown is (thanks to the MA Democratic Party for making this clear), rather than whining like some are doing on the blogs.

This is driving me crazy. A loser mentality even if we are not losing.

1. It is crazy and you are right
It is beyond useless that anyone would be blogging on the possibility of losing the week before an election where a better case can be made that she is winning.

2. Like it or not, they are buying into the political spin that benefits the Republicans.
Slow news period and lead up to 2010 elections.

3. It's how the Left ALWAYS behaves.
I am sorry but I have been reading comments on dailykos saying Obama equals Bush, is just as bad as him, etc. They are an anti-social irrational crowd, so throwing Coakley under the bus is really just a side event for them. I saw a writer on Twitter equate her campaign to Creigh Deeds. I'm sorry, is Coakley consistently 15 points down in the polls like Deeds was? Is Coakley repeating right wing talking points about Obama?

It's just madness. Is the election a week from today?

5. I was not targeting the Left, here, on the contrary. Those I was targetting are the DLC type.
those who think that charisma is all that matters and think that she campaigned poorly (even though they have no clue how she campaigned). They spend more time strategizing how to pass HCR even if she loses than making sure she wins.

6. Actually, that is what the lefty types and the DLC types have in common.
Or some lefty types anyway. I read the same ones on dailykos who hate the hcr bill also whining about Coakley.

4. Some here and at other left blogs WANT Coakley to lose
so the healthcare bill fails. As a Massachusetts resident I am beyond pissed about that. Do they really wish for a teabagger as our junior senator and in Teddy's seat? How very progressive and liberal of these fucks :sarcasm:

7. There are few of those. I am talking about the other side, those who swallow the GOP lies
each time because it is more convenient to declare you lost than to fight. I am talking about all these posts around the blogosphere strategizing how to pass HCR if Coakley loses.

8. Oh yeah, they're around too. Thankfully the Dem leadership
has started to get active now. BC coming here for a fundraiser, phonebanks being set up, DNC putting 600k worth of ad money up, all that helps.
The truth is though, Martha Coakley made a mistake by laying low after the primaries. The campaign sat on what they thought was an insurmountable lead and name recognition. They did not take repub/teabagger passion into account. Brown raised 1.3 Million dollars in 24 hours. The national media has taken an interest and is practically salivating at the prospect of an upset. Brown now has close to the same name recognition Coakley has. There was no need for the last minute scramble if Coakley had stayed on the offensive and alert. It's not like the campaign was broke.

9. Just saw this on Twitter:
marcambinder John Kerry sends an e-mail to HIS list calling the MA SEN race a "dead heat."

Anyone receive this e-mail?

11. I think this is hyperbole.
And, is being done to arouse Democrats. I wouldn't take things for granted, but I think Coakley should win. It is by how much which is important now.

13. yes - but it seems to be from the DSCC - subject is "dead heat", but Kerry says dead heat in 1 poll
Dear Karen,

This is our wake-up call. Polls in Massachusetts are tightening, and one even shows a dead heat in the fight to keep Ted Kennedy's seat in the hands of a Democrat who will fight and vote for jobs, health care, clean energy, and mainstream values.

The far right has launched a massive online fundraising effort, and Brown's allies are blanketing Massachusetts with anonymously funded, shadowy attack ads by outside groups. Sound familiar?

It's time to stand with Martha Coakley. Your donation now could make the difference. Election Day is in one week. Can you step up?

Click here to donate $5 or more to the DSCC today. The special election is only a week away, and we need to raise $225,000 to fight the attacks, organize the grassroots and get each and every Democrat to the polls. Your donation now will make a difference!

The DSCC hit its $100,000 goal, but the right-wing attack dogs are spending that and more on ads against Martha. You and I both know that these negative campaigns can work.

That's why we need to raise $225,000 to help Martha fight back. Martha's vote is critical to getting health care and the rest of President Obama's agenda passed. If we lose this seat, we also lose our ability to stop Republican filibusters.

The next five days will decide the fate of Ted Kennedy's seat. Do we elect Martha Coakley - who will fight for jobs, our families and our communities as my Massachusetts colleague and the state's first woman senator, or Republican Scott Brown, whose allies in the right wing dream of holding a "tea party" in Kennedy country?

Click here to donate $5 or more to the DSCC today. The special election is only a week away, and we need to raise $225,000 to fight the attacks, organize the grassroots and get each and every Democrat to the polls. Your donation now will make a difference!

Ads are running, phones are ringing, and volunteers are knocking on doors. Now is the time to push harder. We can't leave anything to chance. Too much is at stake.

Sincerely,

Sen. John Kerry

P.S. Getting out the vote is essential. We need your help to raise $225,000 to fight the ugly attacks, organize the grassroots and get each and every Democrat to the polls. The time to make a difference is today!

14. Complacency kills Democrats
as does over-confidence. Finding that balance, the sense of urgency and desire to vote, is how we win. Plus I sometimes think half this hysteria is all just to raise money. People are motivated differently and clearly there's a chunk of the Demoratic Party that love high anxiety. Maybe campaign strategists know that.
