Your opinions, please.
Not really OT as JK is getting ready for Copenhagen. :)

Some of you may have noticed an abundance of a certain type of freeperish behavior in the neighborhood (thankfully not this block, of course). Just thought I'd post a little poll. Early results are less than encouraging. Maybe some folks here might like to weigh in?

If it seems obscure I will clarify later. I think you all will get it though.

1. I suspect that the idiots who would stay in the car are the denier trolls
They likely knew why you asked. I suspect that many of them are trolls, but there are some that are so concerned with the economy that they want to believe it is not true.

This may also be a rerun of the the SBVT, more complicated and striking more. The RW media is spending entire shows on how there is no AGW. They also are smearing Gore, saying he is in it to make money, and they are claiming that they care about the poor, the homeless etc whose lives will be made tougher by cap and trade. Now, they are completely creating a made up vision of all the scientists working together to create a hoax. Daily Kos has an excellent diary with tons of information shooting this done. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/11/25/808088/-The-SwiftHack-(ClimateGate)-Scandal:-What-You-Need-to-Know

To complicate it, there are the too cool left, led by Matt Taibbi, who have connected dots (even the ones not yet there!) to say that cap and trade is another Goldman Sacks. Here, I do think that every safeguard imaginable must be used to prevent speculation, but it is crazy to declare things like this before the process is even designed.

5. Oh yes, I am sure you are right.
I didn't really think anyone would miss what it was about (altho apparently the first poster did, and he was good enough to admit it!)

I think cap and trade can work and is right now probably the only viable option that can be implemented soon. I don't think it is likely the best option, but I don't think political reality will support other things (like a carbon tax with offsetting low income tax credits - the most obvious but most dead-in-the-water approach).

2. If I may, the analogy is missing one element.
For me, it is not a car going to blow up. It is the Titanic sinking and somebody refusing to leave the ship before everybody else leaves.

Sure, there are a few freepers who do not believe global warming is real, but most people's argument, particularly among Democrats, is that we cannot do anything because other countries do not act.

4. The Titanic analogy is good
and probably better than the "car blowing up" analogy. It was just something I thought of, and thought if any open-minded people are left on DU (ha! fat chance, right?) it might be worth pointing out. Also I was genuinely interested in how high the denier ratio is here. The result was depressing.

3. That one poster does not sound like a Democrat.
Only righties talk that way.

FYI: I got out of the car. I have my music in several places so I can afford to lose that ipod in the explosion! :)

(hey, music is important, damnit!)

6. I agree
in fact I am sure there are at least a couple usernames out there whose primary purpose is trolling for the climate change denier lobby. (JMHO of course)
