2. Could you post how it goes here?
It sounds fascinating - and some of us are decades from qualifying as youths. :)

4. Sure will! :)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay for the whole thing (as I have a class that starts about an hour after it's supposed to begin, that I unfortunately can't get out of tonight :( lol), but I will stay for as long as possible and will be sure to post all about it on here ASAP! :)

It also said in the e-mail I got that there would be a webcast of it on the site during the time it's happening: http://act.consequence09.org/t/5142/l/eng/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=13922

Hopefully they will have some way of keeping the audio of it up afterwards so everyone else can hear it. :)

9. Grist has a report:
http://www.grist.org/article/2009-10-27-senator-john-kerry-youth-climate-bill-were-gonna-need-your-help

On a conference call Tuesday night with young climate activists, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) served up several newsy tidbits, starting with his hint that sort-of climate news will come out of President Obama’s upcoming trip to China and that getting a bill through Congress will mean compromising with Republicans who want more nuclear energy.

Kerry’s comments came on a call organized by Green For All focusing on how young people can help up the ante in demanding a clean energy future. Kerry, Green For All CEO Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, and Hip Hop Caucus President Rev. Lennox Yearwood took turns speaking, with the conversation acutely attuned to the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act (cosponsored by Sen. Kerry), which is the subject of Senate committee hearings this week.

10. That's a pretty accurate report. I'd only take issue..

...with one part:

Residents of Indiana, New Mexico, and North Dakota received special attention for their fence-sitting or possibly obstructive senators. For example, Sens. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) and Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) have signaled an interest in splitting off the climate change provisions of the bill from the clean energy portion, the thought of which gives Kerry the heebie-jeebies. “We won’t meet our responsibilities” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions if the climate change pollution reduction mechanisms are dropped, he stressed, sounding very stressed himself.

“Don’t be scared of this,” he warned. “Be scared of buying oil from the Middle East” and compromising national security. “Be scared of China, India, Germany, passing us by” in the clean technology revolution.

Senator Kerry really stressed the need for activists to contact their representatives...ESPECIALLY if these folks (Bayh, Bingaman and Dorgan) were theirs. :) He said ALL of us need to voice our opinion by calling and/or writing our reps. and doing LTTE's.

He talked of the fear tactics of opponents and how they were trying to get people to be afraid of the kind of change we really need...especially by saying it is a tax and would cost people money they do not have (my wording). He emphasized that the only real fear is the outcome if we DON"T act now.(Like with Healthcare.) That's what he meant by " Be scared of..." He was spelling out the possible scenario of NON-action. And I don't think he sounded stressed at all. Actually, considering what a long day he put in yesterday, he sounded very focused, positive and upbeat. I do NOT know how he does it. :)

It was a really positive call...and I continue to be amazed that he HAS the time, let alone TAKES the time to do things like this. I think he really values young people and understands the importance of getting them involved in democracy at a young age. :patriot:

I really enjoyed the call. It was so interesting to get the Senator's perspective on all this, both as someone who is the author of the bill and is of course working hard to get the legislation passed and as someone who started out their political life as a young activist. :) I also appreciated his pragmatic approach, warning us of the roadblocks we will face and the compromises that may have to be made, but motivating us, in our strength in numbers, all the same. I felt really encouraged by what he had to say.

He's such an inspiration. :)
