Jeff Beatty: Wants to investigate bailout plan. And what is an alphabet agency?
This guy is an idiot and totally incoherent:

http://www.dailynewstribune.com/state/x282363319/Kerry-opponent-Beatty-says-he-would-have-voted-against-bailout

He seems to want to turn John Kerry into a Wall Street tycoon. And then he has some pretty weird things to say:

Wakefield — Jeff Beatty, the 56-year-old Harwich Republican who is making a bid to unseat incumbent U.S. Senator John Kerry, said he would not have voted for the economic bailout package.

...

In a recent interview, Beatty pointed out four specific issues that he will work to resolve, if elected, now that the bailout package has been passed.

“We have to get the money back from the executives — the tens of millions of dollars they took while they were building their houses of cards,” he said. “The $700 billion represents $7,500 per household or $2,500 per individual. That’s a lot of money that we are on the hook for now. We need to get the money back.”

Beatty noted that if the Department of Defense did its job the way the Treasury Department does, this country wouldn’t be having the successes we’re having in Iraq.

“We need to reform the alphabet agencies,” he said, “Oversight on these agencies is a problem. I will fix that. This area needs reform.”

Beatty wants to investigate the bailout package.

“We have to investigate how this happened. It doesn’t just happen,” he said referring to the bailout package as passed by the legislature.

“Out of 400 pages, do you know how many words there are concerning the FBI? — 34. There are 100,000 words , but there are only 34 words that deal with investigation. This bailout restricts the FBI’s investigation (of the circumstances which lead to the creation of the bailout).

Well if the dimwit had turned on his TV and read "all" of the newspapers, he would have known how it happened. Investigate the bailout package? Um .... C-SPAN archives? And I don't get the alphabet agency remark.

On energy, he is simply Sarah Palin "drill, baby, drill", and inexpicably says this:

“I love wind farms,” he said.

“Hull has installed a couple of turbines. They are able to generate three-quarters of a million dollars a year in electricity. buying less from the grid. They either reduce their tax burden by this amount or keep tax savings and offer more services,” Beatty said.

“I wanted to support the Cape Wind project, but was reluctant because the cost to the average consumer will be more than the return,” he said. “I can only support wind projects when they help reduce cost of electricity to people affected by them.”

He is not in favor of the LNG facility in Fall River, although he does support the idea of an LNG facility located elsewhere.

“Citing a facility is important,” he said. “It needs to be away from the populated areas. We wouldn’t want it a nuclear plant in the middle of a metropolis would we?”

With regard to the LNG plant, Beatty said he would rather see it away from a populated area and offshore.

“I think this is a public safety hazard. I have walked the property. I have talked to the citizens and attended meetings and rallies,” he said.

“When I am senator, I will push for public safety impact statements. We have environmental impact statements. is a populated area and, God-forbid, something goes wrong. I have concerns for the public living within a radius of the plant.”

Huh? So he is for wind farms, except the ones that may become a reality? And pushing for environment impact "statements"? Hello! They already DO environmental impact studies (statements?), and are currently still doing them in regards to Cape Winds. I am telling you, this was one area where I thought Kerry was vulnerable, and yet we now have another candidate who WON'T SUPPORT Cape Winds. LOL.

1. Probably SEC and co, Ge us really light-weight anyway.
I love this remark

I
will fix that

Can somebody explain to this guy that he is NOT running for governor or president, but to be one out of 100. A senator needs 60 votes to fix anything and has NO executive power.

For the rest, there are good reasons to oppose Cape Wind and bad ones. I cannot figure out from his statements on which side he is (if he even knows)?

My initial reaction to this article was "woulda, coulda", given that he claims he would have voted against the IWR but agrees with McCain that we need to stay.

2. The LNG thing is ridiculous because Kerry, Kennedy and Frank have worked hard against it
Here is a link to a Kerry statement from the Coast Guard that recommended against it. http://kerry.senate.gov/cfm/record.cfm?id=285994 He is already working on this.

The bailout stuff is weird - I didn't get that he wanted to investigate the bill as well as the financial situation that got us to that point. His idiotic continuing statements that Kerry has conflicts of interest are annoying (If AIG's CEO was such a good Kerry friend why was he a Bush ranger and why did he NEVER give Kerry a single contribution.

His analysis that Kerry is vulnerable does not make sense.

4. My feeling is that he is not too bright. I am still trying to understand his claim that Kerry should
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 08:49 AM by Mass
sell his AIG stocks. It seems to me that it would have looked a lot worse if he had sold them before the company announced his troubles? I am scratching my head with this one.

As for this, what is his claim? That it would have been better to have the economy collapse totally? This guy makes EOR look like a genius.

"Kerry advocated for the bailout because it provides political cover to hold things together to get past the election," Beatty said.
