Did anyone watch the debate last night? One of Palin's memorized lines was to knock Kerry.
I found Palin to be a big embarrassment of a vice presidential candidate last night; the only reason why pundits swooned was because she had been so dreadful with her Couric interview, that she could only improve, which she did by skillfully memorizing or just reading cards of canned talking points, winking at the camera, speaking in a fake-folksy-way-only-DC-pundits-would-fall-for-it cadence, and then by the end flubbing answers while classlessly ignoring Biden's emotional moment.

But relevant to this forum, was this BS line:

At one point she even said, "It's so obvious, I'm a Washington outsider," almost trying to goad Biden by pointing out his answer reminded her of John Kerry's answer that he voted for a bill before voting against it.

Sarah Palin represents everything WRONG with this country. She is like that manager a lot of us have had in our jobs who schmoozes with the bosses, talks in utter BS language in meetings, and then eventually gets promoted, leaving behind a major mess, since she never actually DID any work nor understood ANYTHING of what the department was doing. That is Sarah Palin -- a BS artist who can memorize talking point script. She doesn't understand honor, integrity, decency or plain old fashioned good honest work. It's all about smiling to the cameras and the performance. John McCain has really embarrassed himself picking her.

1. i hate her and i hate the whore media
who is praising her for being able to giving talking points from her notes. that's why her responses never matched what was asked. she just heard key words and repoeated the talking points she was to give if a question with those words was asked.

that's why after Biden explained how based on their caclulation for Obama voting to raise taxes, Mccain would have voted over 400 times to raise taxes. and yet she responded by giving the same shit talking points as if Biden had not even spoken.

i'm just disgusted with the whole thing. how is this shit allowed. Miss South Carolina got more crap for her answer at the pageant. Britney Spears was ridiculed more for some stupid music show performance.

but this is about national office and dealing with serious matters. and we have this pathetic sideshow that people praise for not sucking as bad as they did in the last performance.

2. I heard that and wanted someone to make her go away
What's strange is that she didn't get that nearly half the country voted for JK and it was very dumb using an unfair attack like that. This was not Hannity or the Republican convention where everyone would laugh. Obama did not necessarily have every Kerry voter.

I agree with your assessment - my middle daughter suggested my husband and I watch "mean girls" to see young Sarah Palins.

3. I agree with everyone here -- I also hate her and everything she
represents.

I appreciated what Chris Matthews kept saying last night (a theme he's been harping on for a while). He kept saying that all her lines were canned and rehearsed. That her debate was a good recitation of rehearsed lines. But it didn't come from real understanding. Earlier he had said something like, "If you ask an adult what they've been reading lately, they should be able to come up with something right away. They shouldn't be PROUD that they don't read." (I assumed this was in response to something Palin must have said in an interview????). He's been openly disgusted with talking heads, Bush toadies, and candidates who don't know history and/or who shamelessly distort history.

He seems to have had his fill of ignorance in Washington, and the honoring of ignorance.
Guess that Jesuit education of his must have had some effect. : )

I think I hit my most appalled moment (and believe me, there were many ... I'm amazed we still have a TV) when she tried this "I understand what it means to be a mother" bit. No, she doesn't. I am a mother. And I resent like hell having that self-absorbed bimbo tell me that SHE represents ME and my concerns. :banghead:

5. She's * in a skirt (and I first said it before KO did his piece today--lol).

Read your last paragraph with the chimp in mind and see if you don't agree. She's getting by on her looks and charms but she's an empty suit.

Our guys have real integrity, real brains, real knowledge. McFailin has none so they go around lying about themselves to see how many people they can fool. If they are so great, why do they have to keep doing that?

I'm so glad for this repub ticket though. It's got something for everybody to hate. And they'll soon be off the stage.

7. Your comment
"She's getting by on her looks and charms" plus beachmom's "BS artist" perfectly summarize my gut rejection to her. I HATE that type with a passion, no matter whther male or female. I remember years ago when I was a young and very inexperienced professor I had a good looking male student come to me to argue about a grade and my shock when I realized that he was trying to play his male charms on me. He did not get a better grade, and then wrote a letter to the dean complaining and putting part of the blame on my imperfect English (my English was fine thank you at the time, but I had and continue to have an accent, a very easy to understand one).

Speaking of BS artists, did you see the "explanation" for the awful Couric answers that SP gave yesterday in a Fox interview (saw it replayed on CNN)? Something along the lines that she did not want to answer because she was offended by the questions (I think she said that she gave "flippant answers" on purpose). Ah, and by the way, you will all be relieved to know that she reads the NYT and even The Economist.

11. There is no way in hell she reads The Economist.
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 09:51 PM by beachmom
Had she done so, she would have known FIVE YEARS AGO that we had a housing bubble and that when it burst it was going to be very painful. The Economist kept warning over and over again about the housing bubble, that it was not sustainable.

She is a serial liar, and was told to say this after she flubbed her answer with Couric. I have no doubt that she is "cunning" and "clever" when it comes to hand to hand combat in politics. But she is dumb as a brick (credit to my hubby for that term to describe her) when it comes to thinking through important issues like our economy or dealing with Islamic extremism. She has no curiosity whatsoever for these sorts of things, and would therefore die of boredom reading the dryly written Economist. Sorry, that doesn't pass my BS detector. The truth is probably that her staff prepares a memo for her a la Bush, and that is how she gets her news. That or the local news or on a good day, the daily newspaper (along with her continued reading of The John Birch Society publication).

12. "She has no curiosity whatsoever "
100% agree. Also it's what I heard Chris Matthews say a couple of times recently, last time when commenting on the debate, comparing her to W and how scary he finds their shared lack of intellectual curiosity. As I said above, it is for such comments that I like Matthews, these seem like authentic moments and make it quite easy to stomach his faults,

But isn't her husband a former member of a political party which has treason against the United States as its central tenet?

Answer: yes.

For Bonus: see DU GDP The Train Game. Photos of each pres and VP candidate as trains . Funny , and perfect!
(Obama = Acela or TGV (can't tell for sure); Biden = regular Amtrak; McCain = old steam train; Palin = derailed Thomas the Tank Engine)

8. KO had a comparison video to W's first run-reformer w. results, outsider, folksy.

Others have pointed to actual phrases. Her speechwriters are W's. Could the public fall for the same shtick again, to the letter?

10. besides the base, I'm going to say no, they're smarter than that.
It's too soon to fall for it again. And Obama's poll numbers are proving it. Hers have been sliding too--I'm going to be waiting for new polls that happen maybe two weeks out.
